Job Description
Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, the Aquatics Director is responsible for developing, organizing and implementing high-quality, member-focused Aquatics programming for the organization.
The Aquatics Director is responsible for the financial well-being of all Aquatic departments.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years or older
- Bachelor’s degree or in pursuant of a Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Two years related experience in program development and supervision
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions, and to supervise program activities within the department
Essential Functions
- Build, monitor, and maintain budgets for all assigned departments within Aquatics programming
- Meet program financial goals, participation targets, and quality and safety standards
- Compile and report program statistics that will accurately reflect the quality of the program
- Ensure programs are aligned with cause in accordance with strategic and operating plans
- Develop new programs that meet the needs of participants and reach under-served segments within our service area
- Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, and terminating personnel in the Aquatics Department
- Schedule staff to adequately supervise programs and ensure a safe environment
- Review and evaluate staff performance and develop strategies to motivate and engage staff
- Ensure staff certifications and records are current and complete
- Facilitate monthly inservice trainings and informational meetings with Aquatics Staff
- Process bi-monthly payroll
- Build relationships with and among members, create a supportive community environment, assist in recruiting and engaging new members, and connect members to the YMCA’s cause
- Communicate information with participants, parents or other persons associated with the programs
- Communicate with direct supervisor to report on issues, concerns, and successes of the programs
- Purchase necessary program equipment and supplies
- Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships within the community
- Collect and track team and participant fees owed to the YMCA
- Coordinate the setup and take down of equipment associated with programs
- Coordinate pool schedule and monitor activities accordingly
- Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations
- Work directly with the Senior Program Director to coordinate and communicate with all Aquatic facility rentals
- Create and ensure safe and welcoming environment
- Ability to enforce policies, problem-solve, and handle emergency situations
- Ability to assist and communicate with all populations of people regardless of race, age, and special needs

- Attend YMCA trainings and other related training opportunities when appropriate
- Support YMCA special events, signature events, and campaigns
- Perform all tasks to the best of your ability and with a positive attitude

Required Certifications
Professional Rescuer CPR, First Aid, AED (must have upon hire)
New Employee Orientation (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
Department Specific Insurance Trainings (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
Accredited Lifeguard Certificate through Red Cross (must have upon hire)
Accredited Lifeguard Instructor Training Certificate through Red Cross (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
OSHA Pool Operator Certification (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
National Accredited Group Exercise Instructor Certification (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
