Job Summary / Basic Function :

Integrate Experiential and Career Learning activities within the School of Public Service, assisting with overall planning and operational activities of the program.

Coordinates experiential learning with constituents, conducts assessment of the learning experience, and evaluates the impacts.

Department Overview :

The School of Public Service offers a wonderful variety of experiential learning opportunities and internships for our students! This position will coordinate these activities within SPS and across the University.

This is a unique position that interfaces with advisors, career services, and many other colleges.

Level Scope :

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers.

Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience.

Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems / issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.

May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.

Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions :

60% of Time the Experiential and Career Learning Coordinator, Senior must :

  • Collaborate to implement and promote a wide range of experiential and career learning programs based on best practices
  • Engage with faculty, staff, SPS administrators, students, and the campus community to develop, expand, and sustain high-impact ECL activities within SPS
  • Lead efforts to expand opportunities for experiential and career learning (ECL) that promote students personal, educational, and professional development (e.

g., classroom opportunities, community-engaged learning, field schools, and internship opportunities)

  • Promote the value of experiential and career learning (ECL) opportunities for students to internal and external constituencies
  • Research, track, and implement systems to assess the impacts of ECL on student and School success
  • Coordinate the maintenance of strong and mutually beneficial relationships with relevant community and campus partners in order to increase the breadth and depth of student ECL opportunities

35% of Time the Experiential and Career Learning Coordinating, Senior must :

  • Coordinate faculty / staff development opportunities related to ECL
  • Assist with student advising toward ECL opportunities
  • Create and manage policies and procedures for ECL. Continually evaluate and improve upon these processes
  • Interpret, apply, and implement policies and procedures to accomplish goals. This role will include financial and compliance-based duties such as purchasing and making travel arrangements
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for ECL activities.
  • Design and implement an annual event to showcase ECL in SPS that includes students, faculty, staff, community partners, and donors
  • Train and supervise employees as needed

5% of Time the Experiential and Career Learning Coordinating, Senior must :

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :

  • Working knowledge of various industry hiring standards
  • Ability to relate to a diverse student population
  • Ability to work in high pressure situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to conduct business with attention to ethical considerations, University policies and procedures, employment law and accreditation guidelines
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of community partners, field sites, the public sector, and / or regional employers

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelors degree or relevant experience plus 5 years experience.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Masters Degree
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience developing, coordinating, and implementing programs with diverse stakeholders

Salary and Benefit s :

Salary range is $58,000 to $62,000 annually and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package , including (but not limited to) :

  • 12 paid holidays AND the University is closed between Christmas and New Year's
  • Between 12-24 annual paid vacation days for full-time Professional and Classified staff depending on position type and years of service
