Responsibilities Health Information Service Technician Per Diem Position Major Duties and Responsibilities : Assisting in all areas of the Health Information Management (HIM) department.
Predominantly collecting discharged records and auditing / monitoring record completion and assembling / analyzing discharged hybrid medical records.
Other duties may involve processing Transition Record of Care documents to aftercare providers, overseeing the chart Incomplete area, monitoring Discharge Summary and chart compliance, processing internal and external requests for the release of consumer information, printing transcribed reports, filing loose reports, retrieving and filing of records, maintaining organization of filing areas and department, and auditing medical records for compliance as per laws, rules and regulations of federal and state licensing agencies, and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards for quality of consumer care.

Open to hiring a current student in the HIT program. Experience required : A minimum of one (1) year of experience in health information management department preferred.
- New HIT graduates and current HIT students are acceptable. Skills Required : Knowledge of the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act;
- knowledge of Release of Information procedures, adhering to Illinois State and Federal regulations and special regulations regarding minors, substance abuse / HIV / STD confidentiality;
- knowledge of medical terminology; knowledge of all medical record functions, knowledge of particular document types located in a medical record and their timeframes within all laws, rules and regulations of federal and state licensing agencies;
- knowledge of computers and various software programs; skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines; effective oral and written communication skills;
- excellent time management skills and strong customer service skills; ability to use effective judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information;
