ABOUT THE ROLE

The Warehouse Clerk / Delivery Driver role will be responsible for the operation of our Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB) Warehouse at the Talladega Manufacturing Plant.

This position reports to the Supervisor, Warehouse Department.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate
  • Must possess a valid Alabama Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to be insured by AIDB insurance carrier by maintaining a good driving record.
  • Must possess a good driving record with no record of DUI. Driving record will be checked for the previous five years.
  • Must complete pre-employment drug screening to be eligible to drive an AIDB state vehicle.
  • Must be able to drive truck from 1 ½ tons capacity to 4 tons capacity with up to six-wheel drive.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting, moving, carrying, and handling numerous boxes weighing up to 60 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must possess computer skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and Google Suite (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and Sheets.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal directions, read maps, and follow GPS as required to make on time deliveries to the customer.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum one (1) year of work experience working with people that are blind, visually impaired, deaf, or have other significant disabilities.
  • Minimum one (1) year of work experience in shipping and / or receiving.
  • Minimum one (1) year of work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum one (1) year work experience operating a forklift or material handling equipment.
  • Minimum one (1) year work experience driving a mid-size truck or van.
  • Minimum one (1) year work experience driving for a delivery route.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must follow AIDB policies and procedures.
  • Must understand, support and follow the mission of the AbilityOne Program by remaining in compliance of statutory and regulatory requirements set forth in the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act.

You are expected to conduct all business ethically and lawfully.

  • Must comply with all AIB safety requirements. This includes proper safe lifting techniques at all times.
  • Operation of any AIB vehicles must remain in accordance with established delivery routes and must be in compliance with a pre-established delivery and pick-up schedule.
  • Must follow the AIDB policies or procedures related to the operations of an AIB vehicle by retaining and submitting all receipts or invoices for gasoline purchases or emergency road repair.
  • May be required to attend conferences, in-service training and other functions.
  • Must possess general knowledge of office equipment.
  • Must be able to perform your responsibilities that sets a good example for others to follow and demonstrate good leadership skills.
  • Must be able to deal pleasantly and courteously with all of the AIB Team to include co-workers, the leadership team, Supervisor, Plant Manager and Executive Director by telephone, written correspondence and in person by using good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and deal with changes in the work assignments.
  • Must be available to work the regular work schedule and may be required to work overtime.
  • Operate material handling equipment to include a forklift and pallet jacks and be responsible for loading AIB vehicles to delivery products to the customer.
  • Follow instruction from Warehouse Supervisor on coordinating a route schedule. Collaboratively work together to plan the route schedule and communicate delivery information.
  • Monitor the performance of AIB vehicles and report mechanical problems as soon as they are detected.
  • Operate material handling equipment to include a forklift and pallet jacks and be responsible for unloading freight carriers and placing products or materials into proper storage areas and vertical bin locations.
  • Operate material handling equipment to transport products and raw materials within the AIB physical plant.
  • Use requisition forms to pick raw materials from various warehouse locations and transfer the raw materials to various manufacturing departments.
  • Use Sales Order pick lists to pull finished goods or resale inventory from various warehouse locations, package, palletize, label and prepare for shipment.
  • Label and bar code inventory items.
  • Perform inventory cycle counts and perform periodic company physical inventory counts.
  • Through routine housekeeping by maintaining a clean and attractive working warehouse.
  • Palletize and stretch wrap goods for storage and / or shipment.
  • Manually load and unload commercial freight trucks or other vehicles at the AIB dock.
  • Must be able to generate and apply bar coding labels.
  • Make warehouse deliveries or may be required to assist with heavy loads along with another Warehouse Clerk / Delivery Driver.

Customer orders may require manually carrying and / or delivery packages or materials weighing up to 60 pounds. It may entail climbing stairs to deliver the products.

  • Complete all required documentation accurately and route according to the established procedures.
  • Must be able to work in all areas of the warehouse that includes raw materials, finished goods, resale inventories, and office duties.
  • Must possess or develop an understanding of cultures and needs of persons who are deaf, blind or deaf / blind, ensuring all actions and decisions demonstrate a respect for and value of persons with sensory loss.
  • Must attend Disability Sensitivity Training Class within the first six (6) months of employment.

SALARY : $16.01- $18.89 Scale IB Rank 34

This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Payroll Schedule Semi-monthly, Direct Deposit is required
