Under the immediate supervision of an assigned supervisor and general direction of a classroom teacher, specialist or therapist, assists in providing academic, behavior and social-emotional supports to individual or small groups of students to enhance learning.

Monitors and reports student progress according to state standards, classroom objectives and the individualized education program (IEP), including health and / or behavioral plans.

May assist students in developing various self-help skills, including hygiene, toileting, eating, social, community and leisure / recreational skills.

Provides emergency health-related assistance to students as needed.

THE CANDIDATE

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester units), or Associates degree.

If a candidate does not possess the higher education requirement, then they must successfully pass the district’s competency exam demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing and mathematics (or readiness in those subject areas.)

Experience : Some experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults in an organized setting. Experience working with individuals with special developmental needs is desirable.

LICENSES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

NCPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) training and certification preferred.

THE DETAILS TESTING INFORMATION

The examination process may be comprised of a multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the

Step 1 : Application Screening (pass / fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications.

Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will be emailed an examination pass. Exam passes will not be sent until after the closing date for the position.

If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the qualifications appraisal interview examination.

Step 2 : Written Examination , if applicable,(required if you do not possess a minimum of 48 college units) proficiency test , applicants will be tested on Math, English and the ability to assist with students.

This will be offered on going. Step 3 : Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%) is tentatively scheduled for TBD .

All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION

Step 1 : $17.37 / hr (initial placement)

Step 2 : $18.36 / hr (6 months)

Step 3 : $19.41 / hr (1 year)

Step 4 : $20.52 / hr (2 years)

Step 5 : $21.70 / hr (3 years)

All new hires will be placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule and will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period.

Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District : an additional 1.20% of base salary per year after completing 4 years of service.

4.10% of base salary per year after completing 9 years of service. 7.08% of base salary per year after completing 14 years of service.

10.15% of base salary per year after completing 19 years of service.13.31% of base salary per year after completing 24 years of service. BENEFITS :

INSURANCE

Available to employees who work at least 20 hours per week. Choice of PPO or HMO, Dental and Vision. Premiums paid by the District (includes employee and eligible family members) based on regular weekly hours worked :

20.00-29.99 hours per week; district pays 50% of benefits

30.00-39.99 hours per week; district pays 75% of benefits

40.00 hours per week; district pays 100% of benefits

HOLIDAYS

Approximately 14 paid holidays per year.

VACATION

Vacation is earned based on assigned hours. (For example : a new employee working 8 hours / day, 12-months per year will earn one vacation day per month, up to a total of twelve (12) days of vacation per

year. Employees who work less than 12-months per year or less than 8 hours / day shall be entitled to a prorated share of vacation benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Vacation earned increases with years of service with the district.

SICK LEAVE

The district provides for 1 day of illness leave per month worked, with unlimited accumulation for unused days.
