This position is available to Virginia residents as Richmond, Virginia in-office applicants or remote applicants residing in states / locations under Eastern or Central Standard Time : Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington DC, Vermont, West Virginia or Wisconsin.

YOUR ROLE

The Special Investigator develops and implements strategies and tactics to prevent and reduce fraud as well as the identification, investigation and prosecution of all fraudulent activities.

What you will be doing

  • Conduct investigations of potential Long Term care (LTC), life, annuity and agent insurance fraud
  • Mine for suspect claims where red flags are present and be responsible for referrals on fraudulent insurance applications, insurance transaction requests, misrepresentations and other possible referrals to special investigative unit (SIU) for investigation
  • Work with all functional departments as needed, especially with the claims and underwriting functions, to assist in development and implementation of effective fraud prevention plans, including developing and delivering fraud awareness training
  • In conjunction with the SIU Supplier Relationship Manager, establish and maintain relationships with vendors such as surveillance companies
  • Identify potentially fraudulent claims to investigate
  • Write detailed, concise reports, summarizing investigation findings
  • Identify and establish external relationships with industry, law enforcement and other contacts involved in fraud investigations, detection and prevention
  • Attend industry training conferences as approved by SIU management to meet regulatory requirements
  • Serve as an investigative resource to the sales, legal, compliance, operations and claim staff
  • Handle other responsibilities as assigned by SIU management or legal department
  • Travel 5-10% travel as needed

What you bring

  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field OR 7 years of professional investigation experience involving economic or insurance matters
  • 5 years of experience with a special investigation unit in the insurance or financial services industry or 5 years Law Enforcement investigative experience with emphasis on investigations
  • Ability to work effectively with several, diverse internal and external functional groups
  • Working knowledge of life, annuity (variable & fixed) & Long Term care insurance products
  • Ability to identify appropriate resources and investigative strategies
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team-oriented environment
  • Ability to leverage sound judgment when reaching decisions and work well in a deadline driven and changing environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently and complete in a timely manner
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to apply a working knowledge of state laws and regulations related to insurance fraud and SIU requirements

For the State of New York :

The base salary pay range for this role starts at a minimum rate of $96,000 up to the maximum of $173,000. In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible to participate in an incentive plan.

The incentive plan is based on performance and the target earning opportunity is 10% of your base compensation. The final determination on base pay for this position will be based on multiple factors at the time of this job posting including but not limited to geographic location, experience, and qualifications to ensure pay equity within the organization.
