The Bridge Week Peer Mentor (BWPM) position is an outstanding opportunity to meet and mentor a diverse, dynamic group of individuals in order to help prepare them for their experience at State.
Mentors are essential in helping to facilitate the adjustment of new students to the ISU community. BWPMs return to campus a week early to serve as student leaders / mentors during Bridge Week.
Specific Responsibilities Serve as a student leader, mentor, tour guide, returning student voice, for incoming first-year students during Bridge Week.
Work Schedule August 7th August 16th as needed / scheduled between the hours of 8am 9pm. Job Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities
All BWPMs will be required to move in on Wednesday, August 7 and participate in training all day on Thursday Saturday and help with Bridge Week move in on Aug 11th.
BWPMs will be expected to be available all day Aug 7 Aug 17.
- Serve as a positive role model (utilizing behaviors like patience, empathy, and reflective listening) while having fun with peers and incoming students
- Facilitate one-on-one and group conversations on a variety of topics, including college transitional concerns, campus involvement, and local opportunities
- Provide encouragement, support, and perspective to new students
- Listen and respond to student concerns with a positive outlook
- Work closely, collaboratively, and cooperatively with fellow staff members and other campus partners
- Address behaviors of concern in students and create a community of accountability among your fellow staff members
- Actively participate in all training sessions : Thursday, August 7th Saturday, August 10th in-person training.
Students who are living in on-campus housing (including 500 Wabash and University Apartments will be allowed to move in early at no cost.
This will be coordinated by the Bridge Week Leadership.
