Under the general direction of the Chief of Research and Evaluation, the Research Scientist (RS) III uses advanced research and analytic skills to further efforts of the evaluation of the public community-based mental health system, with particular focus on the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) and the Mental Health Student Services Act (MHSSA).
The RS III will independently and as a team member plan, direct, and conduct scientific research studies and evaluation activities for management, the Commission, stakeholders, and committees on MHSA / MHSSA components, programs, and policies.

The RS III will work with Research Scientists, Research Data Specialists, and other staff within the Research and Evaluation Unit to utilize information from grant partner data reporting, surveys and publicly available databases to develop summary statistics at the statewide and county levels, and for policy research projects.
Duties require a high-level of contact with commission members, other State agencies, county mental health directors, county MHSA / MHSSA coordinators, educators and school mental health professionals, advocacy groups, mental health clients and family members, and various stakeholder organizations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Development and implementation of systems for continual tracking, monitoring, and evaluating mental health / school mental health program implementation, outcomes and indicators.
- Data collection and technical assistance related to school mental health and the MHSSA.
- Statewide data collection and reporting systems, including development of expertise in currently available data at the county and statewide level, data / reporting needs and requirements, and development / modification of statewide data systems.
