We are seeking an exceptional Intellectual Property Counsel to support the Photonics Solutions Division within MKS Instruments, which provides a range of instruments, components and systems to semiconductor manufacturing, electronics and packaging and specialty industrial applications.
The role requires strategic problem-solving skills and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced and technically diverse environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Collaborate with inventors and business leaders to prepare and prosecute high-quality domestic and international patent applications.
- Conduct thorough prior art searches to assess patentability and identify potential risks.
- Manage patent portfolios and advise business and engineering personnel regarding IP strategies, patentability, freedom to operate, and related issues.
- Ensure ongoing awareness of competitive products, activities, and IP portfolios.
- Provide support in patent licensing, enforcement, and dispute matters.
Key Qualifications :
- 3-6 years of experience in patent law required.
- J.D. or equivalent, U.S. Patent Bar, and US state bar; or registered U.S. Patent Agent.
- If a J.D., a B.S. or higher in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline preferred.
- If a U.S. Patent Agent, a Masters or Ph. D. in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline preferred.
- Significant background or experience in lasers, optics, chemistry, materials science and engineering, and / or materials processing, in addition to industrial process control.
- Excellent written, oral, listening, and organizational skills with proven ability to interact effectively with varied business and legal team constituents, including senior management.
- Possess a desire to grow and develop beyond your comfort zone, a high level of initiative and ability to work autonomously.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, deal with rapidly changing priorities and work within committed time constraints and budgets.

Salary Pay Range : $139,200 to $258,600 per year. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law.
At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
Bonus : This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS.
