The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As an Metrology Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.
Here, you will make an impact by :
- Provide analytical measurements and analysis of films and components used in optical and electrical products for consumer electronics assemblies
- Set-up and upkeep of analytical instruments, including Optical Testing, AFM, Defect Analysis and more
- Develop sample preparation techniques required and design and implement test plan for complex nanoscale samples
- Analyze, characterize, interpret, and communicate test data
- Work closely with cross-functional team
- Supporting continuous experimentation when needed through shift coverage
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start)
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include :
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field from an accredited institution
- Experience in analytical testing and characterization utilizing microscopy
- Ability to support shift coverage for experiments when needed
- Strong hand dexterity and fine motor skills for sample preparation and testing
- Experience with Optical Testing via UV / Vis / NIR
- Experience with SEM imaging of a wide variety of materials (ex. metals, silicon, polymers)
- Experience with AFM, ultramicrotomy, and other metrology methods and equipment
- Experience with white light interferometry or laser confocal microscopy
- Experience in Defect Analysis with FTIR and Raman Microscopy
- Experience in instrument set up, upkeep and sample preparation
- Capable of providing hands-on instrument troubleshooting
- Independent, high energy, positive approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills
Work location : Maplewood, MN
Travel : May include up to 5% domestic
