The Family Support Specialist will supervise visitation between parents and children removed from home by the Department of Children and Families and provide transportation for children to and from their foster placements to prearranged locations within Massachusetts for parental visits while ensuring children’s safety and adequate supervision.

Promote and support positive parenting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain personal and professional boundaries, ensuring confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Oversee and facilitate visitation sessions between parents and children during supervised visitation while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
  • Work to be done in various locations to include office, homes and appointments in other buildings as required.
  • Provide reliable transportation for children to and from their foster placements to prearranged locations for parental visits.

Required to provide transportation using your own vehicle.

  • Complete detailed visitation reports, ensuring accurate and up-to-date record-keeping to support the overall well-being of the children.
  • Work collaboratively within the Community Based Providers team and liaise effectively with the Department of Children and Families.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse communities, families and participants.
  • Utilize your parenting experience or extensive knowledge of the parenting role to promote and support positive parenting.
  • Possess knowledge of personal and client safety, acquired through related work and training, to ensure the well-being of all parties involved.
  • Work as an integral team member alongside other professionals, addressing the cultural and ethnic diversity of families, while maintaining confidentiality and boundaries.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends as needed, to accommodate the varying schedules of families.
  • Navigate stairs in residences without elevator access to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Understanding of health, behavioral health and developmental issues within the family and sensitivity to the needs, interests and capacities of the parents as the primary caregivers.
  • Attendance at internal and external training courses as required.
  • Other related responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in human services or related field or course work preferred. 1-3 years' experience can be substituted for a degree.
  • Experience working with a social service delivery team.
  • Experience with providing services to culturally diverse communities and families / participants.
  • Knowledge of personal and client safety obtained through related work and training.
  • Parenting experience or extensive knowledge of the parenting role and responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with Micrsoft Office 365, Zoom and other technical platforms, exhibit strong communication, writing, editing, and data entry skills, paying meticulous attention to detail when reporting information using Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with proof of insurance coverage and safe driving record for work related travel to client homes and other locations.
