Description
Summary :
Greets, instructs, directs and schedules patients andvisitors. Serves as a liaison between patient and medical supportstaff.
May assist with various duties within the clinic. Verifiesinsurance benefits and assists with referrals. Collects paymentsand prepares cash for deposits.
Responsibilities :
- Maintains flow of patient check-in, verifiesdemographic and insurance information and enters into computerdatabase. Assures that information in patient account isaccurate.
- Assists with answering phones,taking messages and assisting with patient and staffinquiries.
- Responds to CBO requests forpatient account corrections and / or maintenance, in a timelymanner.
- Schedules appointments for patients inaccordance with physician guidelines.
- Collectstime of service payment amounts; collects prior balance amountsand / or arranging payment plans as requested.
The following duties may also beperformed :
- Checks inpatients, verifies and updates necessary information in the medicalrecord. Assists patients with completing all necessaryforms.
- Scheduled appoints according toclinician template and follows office schedulingpolicies.
- Assists front office lead / supervisorwith other administrative duties such as front end duties, denials,work queues and correct any errors to ensure clean claims.
- Screens visitors and responds to routinerequests for information.
- Follows the CHRISTUSHealth guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability andAccountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detectunauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information(PHI).
- Maintains strictconfidentiality.
- Uses oral and writtencommunication skills to effectively convey ideas in a clear,positive manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUSMission.
- Maintains established CHRISTUS Healthpolicies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety,environmental and infection control.
- Performsjob responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with theCHRISTUS Mission and Code of Ethics and supportive of CHRISTUSHealth’s cultural diversity objectives.
- Supports and adheres to CHRISTUS ServiceGuarantee.
- Performs other related work asassigned by leadership.
Requirements :
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of managed care preferred.
- Ability to operate 10 key calculator by touch,telephone, computer, copier, and fax machine.
- Excellent interpersonal and communicationskills and good math knowledge essential.
- SomeCollege Preferred
- Three or more years ofexperience in a health care organization.
- ICD9and CPT coding (advanced skills)Preferred
- Experience with charge posting orcollections Preferred
