We are seeking a Behavior Technician to join our Elementary team.

Definition of Position :

The behavior technician is a specialized paraprofessional who monitors and supports general education students with social, emotional and behavioral needs.

Under the direction of an administrator and working as a member of a school behavior support team, the Behavior Technician will implement strategies and behavior management plans and for students in the general classroom and in dedicated resource and breakout spaces.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Work as a team member with other behavior technicians, paraprofessionals, teachers, social workers, Deans, administrators and contracted behavior analysts to establish and implement positive behavior support plans.

This may include but is not limited to :

  • Check-in daily with each assigned student to review goals and behavioral charts.
  • Intervene when an assigned student exhibits behaviors inconsistent with their goals (this may include but not be limited to prompts, supervision, assistance with an academic or organizational task and if needed removal from the classroom or other school setting as necessitated by the student's behavior).
  • Administer positive reinforcements and consequences according to the behavioral plan and in consultation with supervising special education teacher and administration.
  • Supervise assigned students when removed from the classroom.
  • Maintain daily behavioral logs and charts for assigned students.
  • Respond to and defuse crisis situations through use of conflict resolution and crisis management skills and strategies.
  • With proper training, conduct safe physical student restraints if required.
  • Communicate and consult with teachers, support staff, administrators, and other team members.

Qualifications and Skills :

  • Education, training and / or experience working with behaviorally challenging children.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn appropriate behavior intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn de-escalation and crisis management strategies.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, make decisions and react appropriately, objectively and impersonally to challenging behavior.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise professionalism and confidentiality, and maintain student dignity in all circumstances.
  • Education or training beyond high school is preferred, but candidates with strong comparable experience and / or training will be considered.

Training

Training in Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention, behavior intervention and crisis management will be provided.
