The Early Childhood Education and Care Department was established on July 1, 2020. The Department's aim is to create a more cohesive, equitable, and effective early childhood system in New Mexico.

That means coordinating a continuum of programs from prenatal to five and ensuring that families in every corner of the state can access the services they need.

Why does the job exist?

This position is required to interview clients, asses the need for care, determine eligibility for more complex child care assistance programs and independently manage a caseload consisting of more complex and specialized cases.

This position provides in-depth case management to families throughout the eligibility period in making referrals to other early childhood services, community resources or state agencies and additional specialized supports.

This position will guide families in selecting high-quality, early learning programs for their children. This position is responsible for assisting staff in and processing complex and specialized payments and other financial transactions for child care providers including resolving payment issues, collaborating with providers on payment remittances, etc.

The is a senior level position that will create and provide training and mentoring to eligibility interviewers - operational regarding policy and procedures related to the child care assistance program, as well as to clients, providers, and the community.

This position assists with investigations of provider and client compliance with the program requirements. This position may complete other complex projects as assigned.

How does it get done?

The position is required to analyze and assess complex documents and situations pertaining to employment, education, income, household composition and other factors related to eligibility and implement in accordance with policy.

This position is also required to calculate income and evaluate in accordance with federal and state guidelines in more complex cases.

This position supports and collaborates with eligibility interviewer- operational and management in evaluating program policies, procedures and projects as needed.

This position provides assistance to child care providers to resolve payment issues. This position is a high volume, fast paced position that requires extensive use of computers / databases.

Children, families, providers and internal staff / management.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have, an Associate's Degree in any field or Equivalency (2 years of experience related to the minimum qualifications of this position).

Will have at least two (2) years of experience in eligibility determination / interviewing / case management / clerical experience in social services and / or public assistance program.

Lastly the ideal candidate will clearly describe in application leadership qualities that may include : collaboration, teamwork, customer service, initiative, decision-making, organization, time-management, training / mentoring and good interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years experience in customer service, office administration, government assistance programs such as welfare, unemployment benefits, social security benefits and / or public housing.
