Description of Service Opportunity :

The CPS Summer Scholars program is a four week summer learning experience for current grade 5-7 students with demonstrated academic need.

The program will operate from 8 : 30-12 : 00 at The Putnam Avenue School from July 8 to August 2. The day is organized into a block schedule and studies will have Math, ELA and enrichment periods each day.

The program will include specialized classrooms for Multilingual Learners who will join their peers for lunch and enrichment programs.

The CPS Summer Scholars Principal, under the direction of the Director of MTSS and Program Manager, is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and management of the CPS Summer Scholars program and summer operations at their assigned site. Specific duties include :

May June

  • Attend logistics and collaborative planning meetings;
  • Participate in the recruiting and hiring process for program staff;
  • Support school-based student recruitment efforts;
  • Collaborate with department and program staff to develop program-specific themes that integrate with the district provided ELA curriculum and grade level focus standards for ELA and Math;
  • Create schedules and class rosters for camp sites, include staff lunch and prep time;

Manage a program budget for supplies and enrichment activities, including field trips; and

Participate in planning for pre-program professional development for summer teaching staff

June August

  • Oversee and manage daily program operations;
  • Serve as a liaison for families and teachers in the program;
  • Oversee transportation and pick up of students;
  • Coordinate breakfast / lunch / snack program;
  • Coordinate and supervise field trips;
  • Provide teacher support as needed;

Maintain communication with the Director of MTSS and Program Manager

  • Maintain student attendance data and student pick up logs;
  • Maintain the safety of program participants;
  • Provide substitute coverage when a staff member is absent;

Disseminate communications to families regarding program guidelines, policies and expectations

Coordinate with team members to plan one parent event; and

Other related duties assigned by the Director of MTSS and Program Manager

July 1 3, 2024 (summer set up and professional learning days)

July 8 August 2, 2024 (CPS Summer Scholars program)

Time :

7 : 30 a.m. 1 : 00 p.m. (Principal work day, July-August)

8 : 30 a.m. 12 : 30 p.m. (student day, July-August)

Location : Putnam Avenue Upper School

Minimum Requirements :

Requirements

CPS Summer Scholars principals must have a strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the Cambridge Public Schools.

Minimum of five years experience in teacher or leadership roles. Previous school leadership experience strongly preferred.

Massachusetts DESE licensure in Early Childhood preK-2, Elementary 1-6, and / or Moderate Disabilities preK-8 required.

Length of Contract : May 15 August 2, 2024

Contract Amount :

May 15 June 2024 : $2,500 stipend

July August 2024 : $60 per hour ($6,600, not to exceed 110 hours)
