Job Description and Duties

Operate radio consoles for four area offices, resident posts, scale facilities and Freeway Service Patrol; answer 9-1-1 cellular, allied agencies, and general public telephone lines using the Vesta telephone system;

document information from the calls and / or officers in the field using a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system.

Border CC is located in San Diego and are on the 3 / 12 alternate work week with seniority shift and vacation sign-up.

  • The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) Psychological Evaluation clearance prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a(n) Typing Certificate. You will be required to provide a copy of your certificate prior to being hired.

Incumbents currently in the classification who are eligible to transfer shall upload a completed and signed CHP 220N, Request for Transfer-Nonuniformed, form to this job control.

This position requires the ability to type at a minimum speed designated on the Classification Specifications (link available in the minimum requirements section).

You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed prior to being hired.

Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests :

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to appointment. To satisfy the minimum qualification requirement with education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s) / diploma for initial review.

Original diploma or official, sealed transcripts will be required prior to the start date. Applicants with foreign transcript(s) / degree(s) must provide a third-party transcript / degree credential evaluation that indicates the number of units to which the foreign coursework is equivalent.

The CHP utilizes their own Public Safety Dispatcher certification list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Public Safety Dispatcher classification to be eligible to take the examination.
