Junior High ELA Teacher

Serving a diverse community of over 600 students from Kindergarten 8th grade, our teachers collaborate with each other to educate our students to a high standard, in both academics and character.

St. Matthew’s has a supportive parish community, and community of school parents, who partner with us in forming saints and scholars.

We have a multitude of resources available to support all staff and to set up our teachers for success. We are a double class school;

teachers have partner teachers to work and collaborate with, as well as full-time instructional aides in each classroom from K-5th, and a shared full-time instructional aide in JH.

New teachers have access to a strong yearlong mentorship program, as well as access to ongoing professional development tailored to individual and communal needs.

All teachers receive instructional support from the Dean of Academics; student disciplinary support from the Dean of Campus Life;

support for differentiated instruction, student success, and RTI’s from the Dean of Student services and logistics, communication and organizational support from the Dean of School Affairs.

Teachers also have access to a generous classroom supply fund to utilize for materials and supplies for classroom enrichment beyond your provided basic classroom supplies.

Required Qualifications : BA / BS Degree Willingness to embrace the Catholic values and traditions of Saint Matthew Catholic School Enthusiasm for teamwork, collaboration, and collective efficacy Excellent communication and organizational skills Preferred Qualifications : Experience teaching in a Catholic school (and ideally at the junior high level) Valid California teaching credential (or equivalent) Expertise with technology including various devices, document camera, Google, SmartBoard Responsibilities : Support Saint Matthew Catholic School’s mission, philosophy, and SLE’s Prepare, deliver, and assess (engaging and interactive) lessons / units based on Archdiocesan Curriculum Guidelines Document student learning and report (communicate) regularly to administration and parents Collaborate with grade-level partner teacher, mentor teacher (if needed), and other PLC teachers (6th - 8th) Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, students, and parents Supervise students inside and outside of the classroom, maintaining good rapport with students and effective classroom management.

Perform all other duties outlined in our Faculty Handbook or assigned by the Deans. This position has a significant amount of prep time which is a strong benefit to the planning and organization of lesson plans.
