Position Summary :
Illumina’s VP, Medical & Clinical Affairs will be responsible for developing and executing the company's strategy to drive genomic diagnostics into healthcare practice.
They will serve as a credible and effective thought and opinion leader representing Illumina and the clinical use of genomics globally, expanding the access to genomics and increasing the diversity of genomics data to realize health equity for people around the world.
The individual in this role will play a key role in driving product adoption to improve patient outcomes; collaborating with health care providers to ensure the development of accurate and effective diagnostic tests.
They will serve as the internal linkage between Research & Development (R&D), Commercial / Marketing, advising on compliance and scientific restraints and requirements.
Areas of key influence within the Medical Affairs domain include :
Paving the way for our roadmap products by focusing R&D efforts on addressing unmet medical needs and priorities
Increasing clinical NGS adoption through evidence generation and medical education
Partnering with KOLs and societies to position the role of NGS in precision medicine and ILMN as a leader in clinical sequencing
Within the Clinical Affairs sphere, we expect this key position to enable Illumina’s strategy by :
Driving compliant execution of clinical studies to support Illumina products through patient safety, sample quality, and data integrity
Generating evidence-based data for global and US regulatory submissions
Providing operational expertise, direction, and oversight for compliant clinical study execution
The VP, Medical & Clinical Affairs will engage clinical customers and lead our global medical organization as they continue to develop the company’s efforts to improve human health by unlocking the power of the genome.
This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer and will be a part of developing our company’s overall strategies for clinical success over the next decade and beyond.
Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs and other related duties may be assigned.
Qualifications and Experience :
A physician / scientist of national / international standing who brings with her / him a relevant network and history of clinical expertise to support commercial products
Experience in the design and execution of clinical trials to support drug, device or clinical assay development; Direct experience with NGS in a clinical setting is highly advantageous
Significant medical affairs leadership experience in the life sciences industry with an outstanding record of guiding products to FDA approval
Ability to partner with outside organizations for product development, support of FDA registration and commercialization;
excellent understanding of companion diagnostic development
Understanding of the Regulatory landscape and current knowledge on emerging discussions, changing legislations, and regulatory governance
Experience building medical affairs mission and functionality in a drug, medical device or diagnostic environment
Evidence of being highly team oriented, collaborative and adept at developing trusting relationships with stakeholders; he or she must be able to influence senior executives and focus on helping to educate the broader Illumina organization

Requirements :
MD or PhD in a relevant discipline
Proven success influencing product approvals
Experience working with clinical and key opinion leaders globally in relation to Illumina’s current and future product lines;
subject matter expert in oncology and precision medicine
The estimated base salary range for the VP, Medical & Clinical Affairs role based in the United States of America is : $306,000 - $459,000.
Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly.
Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
