Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia.

Job Summary

The Development Officer, Athletic Initiatives is charged specifically with the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals and corporations with an interest in and capability of supporting the mission of Middle Georgia State University and Knights Athletics.

This position is a member of the Advancement team and also works in collaboration with the Director of Athletics to lead fundraising efforts as the University transitions its athletic affiliation to NCAA Division and the Peach Belt Conference.

The position will maintain clear communication and collaboration with other MGA Foundation staff on donor activities and events to ensure productive results and relationships with constituents.

This position has the overarching responsibility to promote and maintain a personal commitment to the mission of the MGA Foundation and Knights Athletics.

Responsibilities

Gifts & Fundraising (80%) -

Cultivate a portfolio of prospects capable of making major gifts ($25,000+), develop strategies and solicit gifts matching donor interests with the opportunities of Knights Athletics.

Serves as lead facilitator for the Knights Athletic Association (KAA), a fundraising and support function for MGA Athletics.

Work collaboratively with the Athletics Director and office of development to develop a prospect pool of donors for cultivation and plans an annual strategy for solicitation of athletics alumni in order to increase gift income and the percentage of athletics alumni giving to the college.

Plan, coordinate and lead donor cultivation events in collaboration with Advancement such as the Knights Golf Tournament, Knights Give (peer-to-peer giving program) and other fundraising event initiatives.

Coordinate and attend donor focused events with Knights Athletic connections.

Engage University administration, coaches, athletic staff, and faculty as prospect development resources.

Operations & Administrative Support (10%) -

Strategically manage all donor work and activities within Knights Athletics.

Maintain appropriate and effective reporting of activity and monitoring of resources and expenditures associated with portfolio and assigned responsibilities.

Adhere to and enforce the rules and regulations of the NAIA and NCAA, affiliated conferences and other authorities that may influence the MGA intercollegiate athletics program.

Other Duties (10%) -

Contributes to the overall success of MGA Athletics by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Knowledge and level of competency are commonly associated with the completion of a Bachelor degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Required Experience

Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Understanding and appreciation of intercollegiate athletics and Development operations within a comprehensive university setting.

Knowledge of database management and statistical analysis preferred.

Personal solicitation experience preferred.

Ability to manage multiple projects and see projects through to a timely completion with strict attention to detail.

Proficiency in Raisers Edge software for fundraising and relationship management.

Knowledge of National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC), and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations.

Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.

Skill in oral and written communication.
