Primary duties include the following :
- The processing of applicants for a fingerprint based national criminal history check at the.
- Operation of an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) Livescan machine.
- Processing of applicant criminal history inquiries through the use of the AFIS Client Workstation.
- To have a working understanding of the Rhode Island Computerized Criminal History (CCH) system and the workflow between the AFIS environment and the CCH environment.
- Operation of BCI’s Quick Search two finger scan, a process for matching a two-finger scan with an existing ten print fingerprint card in the AFIS system.
- To have a knowledge and understanding of all State statutes that require a National Background fingerprint check and understand what may constitute disqualifying information.
- To be familiar with all FBI policies and procedures that have a direct impact on the Central Repository record.
- Scanning fingerprints that are submitted by mail from out-of-state applicants and to update that information in the CCH database
- To answer all phone calls and emails regarding questions from law enforcement agencies and civil applicants.
- Customer service at BCI’s front window, including the processing of criminal history checks (non-fingerprint based).
Education / Experience / Special Requirements :
- Applicants should have excellent computer skills and be comfortable dealing with the public.
- Experience with criminal justice and criminal identification procedures is preferred but not mandatory.
