The MORNING TRAFFIC REPORTER / METEROLOGIST is a rare opportunity to join CW39 Houston in a high-profile critical role. The ideal candidate must have strong public speaking skills, prior experience as a traffic anchor, and more than five years of experience in broadcasting is preferred.
Must be fully engaged and tech savvy to analyze traffic & weather data to produce and anchor weather & traffic reports in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers on all platforms.
Exceptional social media skills required. Knowledge of W.S.I. traffic & weather systems a plus. Will also host sponsored content show as needed.
Shooting and editing skills also a plus. Bachelor’s degree or related experience required.

Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating special weather, traffic and Responsibilities :
- Dedicated Traffic Reporter / Meteorologist and fill in Sponsored content Host as needed
- Utilizes traffic & weather system to analyze data and present information to viewers in clear concise manner
- Provides additional resources for viewers to get traffic & weather information utilizing social media and station website
- As needed, contributes news reports for broadcast and executes on location live shots
- Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
- Writes stories for the web and other digital platforms
- Interacts with viewers / users on social media sites
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
- Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating special weather, traffic and news programming
- Responds to breaking and / or severe weather events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required
- Works closely with news team to develop comprehensive weather coverage
- Participates in promotional activities including public appearances
Requirements & Skills :
- Bachelor’s degree in meteorology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Minimum five years’ experience in weather reporting or anchoring. (Depending on market size.)
- Fluency in English (Fluency in Spanish a plus)
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Superior on-air presence
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners and other office equipment
- Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
- Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
- Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Flexibility to work any shift
