Summary

The Financial Planning Manager oversees all Associate-level financial planners and assists the Financial Planning Director in coordinating the day-to-day financial planning activities, processes, and workflow, including plan creation, review, and presentation processes.

The Manager manages, trains, leads, and mentors the department's Financial Planning Associates and their work to complete assigned duties.

The Manager also helps the associate define a career path within the department and establish metrics / goals related to planning experience and necessary licensing to help the individual attain these goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance and support to all team members and is the first contact for any general planning or review questions that may arise daily.
  • Completes annual reviews and mentors Financial Planning Associates with the help of the Financial Planning Director.
  • Supports technological deployments and testing related to the Wealth Planning Department, MoneyGuide, Dashboard, and additional IT initiatives as necessary.
  • Educates Financial Advisors about wealth planning products and services through in-person branch training and marketing presentations.
  • Delivers recruit presentations.
  • Works with the Wealth Planning department and IP&S personnel to develop and maintain marketing and educational materials.
  • Establishes relationships with other leaders and Managers in different business units and support teams throughout the Compliance department and firm-wide to influence excellent information flow and feedback on the impacts of process, policy, and product changes.
  • Represents Stifel Wealth Planning Department in client meetings conducted jointly with Financial Advisors to present completed financial plans via Zoom, conference call, and possibly in-person if applicable.
  • Creates various levels of financial plans ranging from basic analysis to the most complex comprehensive plans using the MoneyGuide financial planning software.
  • Reviews and approves financial plans created by all associates in the department.
  • Provides sales support to branches on all Wealth Planning products and services, including marketing, information gathering, client plan presentation, and business opportunity identification.
  • Provides oversight for a single workflow channel specific to the financial planning side of the business (i.e., plan assignment / completion, review workflow, presentation workflow, etc.).
  • Reviews and updates Wealth Planning Policies and Procedures, Stifel Compliance Manual, Standard Operating Procedures, Enterprise Risk Management requests, etc., whenever necessary.
  • Assists with preparing and maintaining planner statistics, such as the volume of plans prepared, types of plans created, accuracy, plan turnaround times, etc.

Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of the securities industry in general and various securities products.
  • Ability to perform and train all positions supervised.
  • Strong leadership skills that can motivate individuals to work together as a team to complete tasks and achieve goals.
  • Solid and reliable mathematical skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and excellent proofreading skills.
  • In-depth understanding of the financial planning process, department, Firm policies / procedures, and industry regulations related to financial planning business.
  • Solid knowledge of and skills in sales and marketing; skilled use of the principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services, including marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
  • Ability to travel when required (limited).

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Required : Business Degree in a related field or equivalent work-related experience.
  • Minimum Required : 4+ years of securities industry experience with 4+ years of financial planning experience.

Licenses and Credentials

  • Minimum Required : FINRA Series 7 and 66 (or 63 and 65 instead of 66).
  • Minimum Required : Life, Health, and Long-Term Care Insurance Licenses.
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) is preferred.

Systems and Technology

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with MoneyGuide, PlanTrax, and Salesforce.
  • Experience with using Zoom.
  • Understanding of the Stifel Dashboard is preferred.
