JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the company. The COO collaborates with the CEO and other executive team members to set and drive the company's strategic direction, operational performance, and financial outcomes.

This position is required to use business metrics, reporting, and analytics to determine the operational strategy for driving performance for the portfolio of hotels.

This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong background in operational management, strategic planning, organizational development, and a history of successfully leading executives and corporate support teams to achieve successful outcomes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborates with the CEO in setting and driving organizational vision, operations strategy, and supporting organizational capability.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor, consultant, and confidant to the President & CEO and senior leadership team, proactively offering advice, counsel and thought partnership related to Operations within the organization.
  • Translates strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operations planning.
  • Measures efficiency of organization's operational processes and takes steps for improvement.
  • Designs, plans, and implements business strategies, plans, and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the CEO and executive team to develop and execute the company's long term and short term strategic plan.
  • Oversees company operations and team productivity, building a highly inclusive culture that ensures team members can thrive and that organizational goals are met.
  • Ensures compliance with national and local business regulations; takes appropriate action when deemed necessary.
  • Oversees daily operations and work of executives.
  • Optimizes the company's operating capabilities; employs strategies to maximize customer satisfaction, and manages marketing initiatives.
  • Analyzes internal operations and identifies areas for process enhancement, efficiency and overall improvement.
  • Employs strategies to safeguard company assets.
  • Implements business strategies and plans that align with short- and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the CEO.
  • Oversees Operations and Finance / Accounting and partners with the CEO in sales management to ensure sufficient investment capital can be budgeted for near-term growth targets.
  • Empowers the Operations and Finance / Accounting teams with leadership and resources to successfully complete operational initiatives.
  • Manages capital investments and expenses to ensure that the company achieves investor targets for growth and profitability.
  • Experience and proven track record of strong, trusted advisor relationships with owners and partners.
  • Develops operational policies, systems, and procedures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identifies opportunities for operational improvement and growth, and implements strategic initiatives to capitalize on these opportunities.
  • Oversees the company's financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Ensures that financial targets and objectives are met, and implements corrective actions as necessary.
  • Fosters a positive and productive work environment, and develops strategies to attract, retain, and develop top talent.
  • Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor and assess operational performance.
  • Regularly reviews and analyzes performance data, and makes data-driven decisions to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identifies and mitigates operational risks to ensure the stability and continuity of business operations.
  • Develops and implements contingency plans to address potential disruptions.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders including customers, suppliers, and partners.
  • Represents the company at industry events, conferences, and meetings.
  • Completes all required Company training / compliance courses as assigned.
  • Adheres to Company standards and maintains compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent in a related field.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum ten (10) years of experience in an executive leadership role in the hotel / hospitality field required.
  • A minimum ten (10) years of experience in the hospitality operations field, gained through increased responsibility in operations management positions.
  • A minimum five (5) years of senior operations leadership experience in full-service hotel or luxury brands.
  • Proven success as a regional or area market leader with multi-property, multi-brand experience (Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Spends the majority of the time (50% or more) achieving organization objectives, often through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff.

A portion of the time may be spent performing individual tasks similar to those performed by direct reports, but primary duties are supervisory or organizational-goal related.

Analyzes and resolves problems, determines work techniques, monitors for regulatory compliance, maintains production, interprets and creates policies, and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge.

Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with independence, and makes decisions on matters of significant importance.

Manages human, financial, and / or physical resources; proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets.

Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Develops systems to ensure subordinates adhere to policies and procedures in compliance with organizational goals and objectives.

Specific supervisory duties include, but are not limited to the following :

  • Manages and mentors direct reports.
  • Determines and creates policies, procedures, and manuals for direct reports.
  • Establishes objectives and goals for the team.
  • Recruits and interviews.
  • Orients and trains.
  • Issues corrective action.
  • Investigates and resolves concerns and complaints.
  • Approves time records and time off requests; submits payroll.
  • Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations.
  • Develops and oversees department budgets.
  • Provides assistance and support; maintains a positive and professional working environment.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS

This position does not require licenses or certifications.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

This position requires the capability to understand and follow both oral and written directions, as well as knowledge and usage of correct business English and office practices.

Must be able to communicate effectively with others, analyze and resolve problems, maintain effective working relationships, and interact successfully with internal and external customers.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel will fluctuate based on business needs and demands. Travel demand can be as low as 25% and up to 75% of the time.
