Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Environmental / Water Resources Engineer in our Austin, TX office, you will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world situations, while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

In collaboration with top professionals in their field, the candidate will work on complex projects involving innovative civil design, water management challenges, hydrologic / hydraulic analysis, stormwater infrastructure and BMP design, flood inundation mitigation and risk reduction, environmental permitting and compliance, and environmental monitoring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Civil / infrastructure design and site layout.
  • Water resources engineering analyses such as hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) modeling and design.
  • Fieldwork such as soil, surface water, and groundwater sampling; drilling, geotechnical investigation, site inspections, and heavy civil contractor oversight.
  • Preparation of technical drawings, specifications, engineering documents, and analyses for : civil design, landfill and impoundment design and permitting, site development and grading, water resources engineering / stormwater management, and erosion and sediment controls.
  • Performing engineering computations using computer-based technical tools and preparing related calculation packages.
  • Technical writing of reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals.
  • Training : This position requires OSHA health and safety, boater certification, defensive driving certification, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm.

  • Fieldwork : Up to 30%
  • Overnight travel : Up to 20%

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or other applicable discipline. (required)
  • Advanced degree in water resources, geotechnical, or environmental engineering. (preferred)
  • Current Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification, or the ability to obtain within six months of employment. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Prior internship or full-time experience in civil / environmental consulting or with a civil contractor. (preferred)
  • Experience performing civil design and site grading. (preferred)
  • Experience with relevant engineering software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, EPA SWMM, AutoCAD, ArcView, etc. (preferred)
  • Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, and problem-solving skills. (required)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
