JOB SUMMARY :
The Teacher Education Department at Saginaw Valley State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Teacher Education, Early Childhood / Early Childhood Special Education position.
Qualified candidates will support, sustain, and expand a culture of access and equity in the teaching and learning of Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education.
We seek a colleague possessing diverse perspectives who can engage in the culture of teaching, scholarship, and service within the College of Education, the university, and the surrounding community.
Additionally, we seek a colleague who will actively contribute to the success of our students, the collaborative nature of our department, and the equity-focused mission of our program.
The primary responsibilities for the position will focus onundergraduate early childhood general and special education courses, with thepotential to teach graduate courses as needed via in-person and virtualformats, advising students, maintaining an active scholarship agenda, andengaging in service within and outside of the university.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Doctorate degree or ABD in early childhood or closely related field.
- Minimum three years of state issued certified teaching experience in infant / toddler home visiting or prek-3rd grade classrooms.
- Experience with designing curriculum focused on birth-3rd grade teaching.
- Knowledge of Michigan Birth-K (General and Special Education) and PK-standards for lower elementary teacher preparation.
- Knowledge of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Division of Early Childhood (DEC) Recommended Practices
- Applicants must be available to teach during the day and evening and attend program and monthly department meetings.
- Ability to perform the job with or without accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Prior teaching experience in special education programs : Birth-5.
- Experience working with families of young children with exceptionalities in natural environments.
- Certification in and / or experience designing curriculum, teaching undergraduate coursework, or supervising fieldwork focused on early childhood or early childhood special education.
- Experience in using digital technologies for teaching and assessment, and / or experience with accreditation and program assessment.
