Ascension St. John Family Medicine Residency Program is seeking a full-time Family Medicine Faculty physician to join the team.

Responsibilities

Ascension St. John Hospital is looking for a Physician - Family Medicine Faculty for our Department of Family Medicine.

This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to partner with Ascension St. John Hospital to provide medical services to Family Medicine patients.

Position Highlights :

• The Family Medicine Residency Program was established in 1973.
• There are seven residents per year in the program.
• This is an employed position consisting of 40% dedicated clinical time, 20-30% teaching / precepting and 30-40% residency administration / research time.
• The well-established family medicine residency clinic is in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, and is part of the excellent teaching program at nearby Ascension St.

John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

• There are 500 clinic visits per week. Types of outpatient visits include full scope family medicine and office procedures.
• The clinic hours are Monday-Thursday 8 : 00am-7 : 00pm and Friday 8 : 00am-5 : 00pm.
• The clinic / residency team includes eight faculty physicians, a PhD behavioral medicine specialist, a care coordinator and a pharmacy team.

There is a lab on-site.

• Inpatient census average is 10 patients / day and rounding is shared on a rotational basis with a schedule of 1 : 9 weeks.

Responsibilities :

• Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills. Coordinates discharge planning with case management.
• Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
• Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and / or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
• Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
• Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
• Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration :

Required Credential(s) :

Physician MD / DO with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board of Medicine obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Verified by local Credentialing Office.

Preferred Credential(s) :

Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Education :

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.

Additional Preferences

Qualifications :

• Completion of an accredited Family Medicine residency program.
• Board eligible in Family Medicine required.
• Board certified in Family Medicine with experience and passion for teaching preferred.
• Experience in research and an area of interest within Family Medicine that may enhance the educational experience of the residents is highly desirable (i.

e., palliative care, wound care, sports medicine, or women’s health).
