Essential Job Functions :

  • Prepares, examines, or analyzes accounting records, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Reports to management regarding the finances of assigned unit(s).
  • Develops, maintains, and analyzes budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted revenues and expenses to actuals.
  • Interprets budget directives and ensures compliance.
  • Classifies, records, and summarizes numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
  • Prepares purchase orders, check requests, expense reports, journal entries, and budget transfers.
  • Compiles budget data and documents, based on estimated revenues and expenses and previous budgets.
  • Reviews operating budgets to analyze trends affecting budget needs, and takes corrective action when needed.
  • Analyzes monthly department budgeting and accounting reports to maintain expenditure controls.
  • Provides advice and / or technical assistance with cost analysis, fiscal allocation, and budget preparation.
  • Summarizes budgets and submits recommendations for the approval or disapproval of funds requests.
  • Performs accounting functions related to grants and contracts, including assisting in the development of budgets, approving expenditures, preparing invoices, and ensuring all accounting activity complies with the sponsor's policies and procedures.
  • Seeks new ways to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profits.
  • Coordinates training efforts for faculty and staff in the use of financial systems (i.e. Banner, Ariba, ECRT, etc.), including preparing materials, offering training sessions and developing tutorials.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :

Knowledge :

  • Economics and Accounting - Working knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • English Language - General knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Administration and Management - Working knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Customer and Personal Service - Working knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

  • Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.

  • Information Ordering - The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules.

Physical Requirements :

  • Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.
  • Speech Clarity - Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand you.
  • May be required to work nights or weekends.
  • May be exposed to short, intermittent, and / or prolonged periods of sitting and / or standing in performance of job duties.
  • May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment / supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, mobile devices, and computer keyboards.

Job Requirements :

Required Education : Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience : Two (2) to four (4) years of accounting-related experience.

Preferred Qualifications : Previous experience in an academic setting.
