Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Supervisor, Construction Safety will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of safety on-site.
Responsible for overseeing and implementing safety protocols, you will collaborate with project teams to create a secure work environment during the erection of mass timber structures.
Your role involves conducting thorough safety inspections, providing training, and fostering a safety-conscious culture to safeguard the well-being of our team and uphold regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities
- Monitor and enforce compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Perform incident / accident investigations as needed, submitting signed copies of all investigation forms to Project Manager, Project Superintendent, and Corporate Safety Representative.
- Ensure completion of daily forklift / aerial lift and rigging inspections, scanning and emailing forms to the Project Manager weekly.
- Walk the site regularly, engaging with the workforce to identify and address safety issues, communicating with crew foremen for resolutions.
- Perform multiple daily site audits focusing on employee safety awareness, identifying unsafe conditions, and ensuring proper PPE use.
- Demonstrate a safety presence by walking the site multiple times a day to confirm OSHA / Mercer Safety requirements are met.
- Conduct daily fall protection reviews, spot-checking equipment and assessing employee knowledge and application of best practices.
- Collaborate with external parties, including government inspectors and insurance representatives, to evaluate work site incidents or unsafe conditions.
- Work with project management, site leadership teams, and field employees to develop and implement safety solutions.
- Support JHA preparation and assist in the new hire process.
- Conduct daily stretch and flex sessions at the building location prior to the shift.
- Monitor subcontractors and employees for compliance with safety standards, reporting violations to Mercer leadership for enforcement.
- Represent Mercer in meetings with General Contractors and other organizations on workplace health and safety matters.
- Promote a safety culture through coaching and directing safety activities to minimize potential incidents.
- Conduct weekly formal site safety inspections, documenting and distributing reports to Mercer leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field; relevant experience will be considered.
- Proven 3-5 years of experience in construction safety, with a specific focus on structures.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety or OSHA 500 certification is preferred.
- Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) to facilitate effective safety communication.
- Leadership abilities to foster a safety-conscious culture and collaborate with project teams.
- Proficient problem-solving skills to address safety challenges.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures and the ability to coordinate responses effectively.
- The ability to travel at least 50% of the time.
Salary & Benefits
- The salary range for this position is $70,000 $95,000 USD. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
