Regardless of role, we recognize that every member of our team is vital! The Insurance Denials Specialist verifies health insurance, obtaining benefits and meeting payer requirements to secure prior authorization(s).
Acts as a liaison between patients, their health insurance, care providers and financial counselors, to assist in understanding their financial responsibilities.
Assists with appealing denials from payers by submitting medical records and supporting documentation as needed to secure authorization or retro authorization.
Insurance Denials Specialist Overview
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Ensures insurance patient’s coverage, resolves any issues with authorization and advances complicated issues to the appropriate manager
- Verifies the need for a prior authorization for a medication through payer websites and other appropriate methods
- Works to establish timely, correct insurance prior to the patient’s procedure in order to financially secure the prior authorization, promote strong customer service, efficient and accurate billing and prompt reimbursement
- Demonstrates ability to adjust service approaches to reflect developmental level of population served
Minimum Qualifications :
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years in insurance resolution, patient accounting or medical billing with knowledge of medical terminology, financial securing, collections and patient interaction;
or new graduate from an HIM-related program with equivalent knowledge
- Knowledge of health plans and payer information including the prior authorization process
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to interact with patients, physicians, multiple internal / external departmental personnel, financial services and insurance payers
Location : At this time, this position will be remote.
Hours : 1.0 FTE (Monday-Friday)
