Job Duties :
The City of Virginia Beach’s Internship Program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to apply and utilize acquired knowledge in field of study.
Eligibility : Must be a currently enrolled student (in an associate's, bachelor's, master's degree or PhD program) and be in good academic standing as determined by the school, college, or university.
Applications received will be considered for Summer and Fall internship opportunities that become available. We have a variety of departments that may offer internship opportunities in engineering, information technology, library, human resources, business, communications & media relations, as well as finance.
Tasks may include working on projects, assisting with day-to-day operations, as well as attending meetings. Our interns often have the opportunity to go on site visits and meet with various stakeholders to learn how the City serves our citizens and tourists.
We are currently hiring interns for the following internship opportunities : Parks & Recreation, Budget & Policy and Health & Wellness.

Parks and Recreation Internship :
Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation interns may be exposed to the various department divisions and a primary assignment will be based on the intern’s strengths, interests, and program requirements.
Required Education : Major or minor (or declaration thereof) in Parks, Recreation, Leisure and Tourism Services, Environmental Studies, and other related studies.

Duties :
- Assist with preparing and implementing age-appropriate activities for programs, camps, and events for diverse age groups and populations.
- Provide manual labor for programs and events.
- Supervise participants (youth or adult) involved in program and events.
- Adhering to program and event safety protocols.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers both written and orally.
- Prepares and / or submits records and reports that are programmatic and administrative.
- May be required to work varied hours evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions and for extended periods of time greater than 8 hours.
Budget & Policy Analyst Internship :
The City of Virginia Beach department of Budget & Management Services is responsible for the City’s budget which provides funding for major construction projects, including projects for building new facilities, improving our transit system, maintaining our roads and parks, purchasing major equipment, and more.
Our Budget and Management Services department is in search of a detail-oriented student with exceptional analytical skills for their Budget & Policy Analyst Internship.
Required Education : Masters in Public Administration (Preferably graduating December 2024)

- Assisting in departmental budgets.
- Reviewing and analyzing the fiscal impact of new and redevelopment
projects.
- Research and evaluation of policies and alternatives.
- Development and summarization of financial information for

Health and Wellness Internship Opportunity :
The City of Virginia Beach Fire Department is offering an exciting opportunity as a Health and Wellness Intern.
Required Education : Student working towards BS or higher degree in a Health Science related field. Applicants should be going into senior year of program.
Any fitness certification is preferred but not mandatory.

Duties :
Assist with enhancing wellness initiatives, new hire fitness evaluations, and recruit
physical training sessions for police and fire
- Fire station and police precinct wellness visits
- Leading morning or evening workout sessions for incumbent first responders
