Position is located in the Oakland Office.

Under general direction of the Supervising Tax Auditor (STA) II, the Associate Tax Auditor (ATA) independently conducts the more difficult and complex audits generally consisting of larger retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, and other business enterprises reporting substantial tax liability and reporting errors involving significant additional taxes.

Independently conducts fraud / tax evasion audits and may testify in court to liabilities determined. The ATA serves as lead over Tax Auditor level staff.

The ATA makes audit appointments; meets with taxpayers and their representatives; explains the audit findings; prepares appropriate audit reports and written correspondence to taxpayers.

Travel may be required up to 50% of the time, which may include overnight.

This position is designated as mobile worker per California Department of Tax and Fee Administration Telework Policy and Guidelines.

Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for full or part-time telework for eligible candidates residing in California.
