We are looking for an Optical Supplier Engineer to join our Middlefield team. The position willl be responsible to perform complex assignments to develop and qualify ZYGO suppliers to ensure quality and performance of purchased goods.

You will work in a collaborative team environment as a key technical resource to develop new supply sources to improve cost competitiveness, increase capacity, and ensure a sustainable supply chain.

You will be the key technical liaison to the supplier to make sure all specifications, performance requirements and test requirements are understood, and provide guidance on quality non-conformance disposition and corrective actions.

You will work closely with commodity managers and engineering to ensure early supplier collaboration on design for manufacturability and assembly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, recommend, and qualify new suppliers through research, technical assessments, and qualification.
  • Provide necessary technical support and documentation to ensure suppliers are capable of understanding ZYGO product requirements and supplier manufacturing and testing capabilities are adequate to meet ZYGO’s performance, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Establish resident optics expertise through understanding of ZYGO’s product requirements, assembly and test processes, other best practices.
  • Qualify testing capabilities of suppliers and ensure measurement correlation is within acceptable range for the given requirements.
  • Provide analysis support for non-conformances and lead RCCA efforts both externally and internally.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with Procurement, Quality, and Commodity Managers to ensure smooth transition of new suppliers to an approved status.
  • Assist and guide ZYGO quality technicians in the inspection of first article samples for critical to function dimensions for visible defects and ensure compliance with all specifications.
  • Support supplier audits and commercial meetings to ensure suppliers are meeting ZYGO’s quality metrics.
  • Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices / designs and future trends.

Experience, Education and Comptencies

  • B.S. in Engineering, optical engineering preferred but not required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a high-mix, technical, manufacturing environment.
  • Manufacturing or Quality Engineering experience, particiculary interaction with or managing suppliers
  • Working knowledge of precision optical manufacturing and testing processes and hands-on work experience with optical fabrication and testing.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and / or bills of materials sufficient to prepare quote packages (opto-mechanical drawings a plus), understand geometric and physical optical engineering principles.
  • Self-Starter who is able to practively communicate

  • Collaborative and able to work across functions and levels
  • This is a hands-on role that requires working on site. Some international and domestic travel will be required.
