position overview :

The CVOR Clinical Manager is accountable for the provision of effective, high quality patient care with 24-hour accountability.

The role encompasses multiple responsibilities including management and evaluation of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery;

management of human and fiscal resources; compliance with regulatory and professional standards and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The clinical manager aligns the mission, vision, and values of the Hospital System with unit activities. The clinical manager, as a change agent, is accountable for implementation of strategies that result in positive patient outcomes.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Ensures collaborative communication with the Director of Surgical Services, RESUME Surgeon(s), Vascular Surgeon, Cardiac Anesthesiologist(s), and perfusion services.

Responsible for the daily operation of the Cardiovascular Operating Room ensuring that policies, practices, procedures, and standards are followed.

Participates in JCAHO survey preparation.

Responsible for Development and Implementation of Policies and Procedures that are specific to the CVOR.

Responsible for timely completion of annual performance appraisals for all CVOR staff. Guides, directs, and counsels staff regarding performance, problem solving and decision making.

Prepares the budget for the unit on an annual basis. Submits a monthly expense budget variance report.

Plans and oversees staff schedules to meet patient care needs. Follows unit and departmental staffing and scheduling standards.

Adjusts own schedule in order to complete workload in view of increased patient activity, staffing requirements or special unit activities.

Updates staff with policy changes in nursing as well as hospital. Encourages staff to keep aware of changes through monthly staff meetings, minutes and memoranda.

Attends nursing management meetings and Administrative Staff meetings as scheduled.

Identifies needs and recommends programs for staff development and education. Maintains cognizance of current health care developments in area of specialty and / or responsibility.

Works with medical staff to coordinate surgical nursing care management.

Completes monthly performance reports for the unit. Maintains the unit-based performance improvement program.

Coordinates equipment and supply for the entire Cardiovascular OR department.

Oversees the on-call schedule (also responsible for taking call).

Provides continual consultation for patient flow, staffing, and equipment selection and facility design issues.

Proficiency Competencies

Performs circulating and scrub roles as assigned, following AORN standards of protocol.

Respond appropriately to emergency call (off-shift) and immediate "bring-back patients.

Demonstrate a knowledge and be able to assist with cardiopulmonary bypass cannulae.

Assist with valvular repair and implantation (this includes valve preparation and sizing).

Assess and operate temporary cardiac pacemakers.

Assist and perform internal defibrillation.

Assist and operate cardiac dysrhythmia ablation devices.

Understand and treat basic parameters of RESUME hemodynamics.

Assist with and "set-up off-pump stabilizing devices.

Knowledge and assisting with operation of the Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP).

Functional knowledge and assist with set-up of endoscopic video equipment (vein harvest).

Functional knowledge of Lasers for TMR.
