The Site Superintendent is responsible for supervising the on-site workforce for the construction of energy efficiency projects within institutional, commercial, and industrial sectors.
This role includes overseeing field operations to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget while maintaining a focus on safety and quality.
The Site Superintendent manages subcontractors and enforces safety policies for projects that involve lighting upgrades, building automation and access systems, HVAC replacements, and solar PV installations.
The Superintendent must provide leadership and active participation to meet client expectations and uphold company standards.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules that align with project goals, coordinating with Operations leadership on crew and team assignments.
- Understand construction workflows and sequencing to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Monitor and update construction progress, address schedule deviations, and recommend recovery plans.
- Support Project Managers in enforcing contract requirements and adhering to project specifications.
- Oversee job site logistics, ensuring appropriate equipment, materials, safety measures, and personnel are in place daily.
- Maintain positive client relationships and ensure project activities do not disrupt ongoing business operations.
- Coordinate subcontractors' work scopes to ensure effective and synchronized scheduling.
- Conduct daily inspections to verify quality standards and safety compliance, specifying corrections as needed.
- Provide pre-construction support to development and operations teams for successful project initiation.
- Collaborate with Project Managers on project submittal reviews.
- Verify bills of materials to ensure they are adequate for the project scope and specific site conditions.
- Understand and assist in controlling project costs, including labor, equipment, and materials.
- Implement and enforce quality assurance / quality control measures as per company standards.
- Promote continuous improvement through real-time corrections, lessons learned, and subcontractor evaluations.
- Prepare comprehensive daily construction reports, including site photos, and delegate tasks when necessary.
- Oversee project close-out processes and punch-list completion.
- Ensure all activities adhere strictly to safety policies and complete monthly safety inspections.
- Manage multiple sites concurrently.
- Stay up-to-date with industry techniques, materials, and technologies.
- Monitor project productivity metrics to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Participate in commissioning tasks.
- Make necessary judgment calls based on blueprints, schematics, and installation requirements.
Requirements :
- Education : High School Diploma or equivalent (required); Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a technical field (preferred).
- Experience :
- At least 10 years of field experience in the construction trade, particularly in commercial electrical, solar, controls, and / or mechanical sectors (required).
- At least 5 years of on-site management experience handling multiple trades in commercial construction (preferred).
- Skills :
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and installation guidelines (required).
- Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (required).
- Active Driver’s License (required).
- Licenses & Certifications :
- OSHA 30 Certification (required within six months of hiring).
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional (preferred).
- Journeyman or Master Trade license and Electrical Contractor license (preferred).
Equipment Utilized :
Computers, phones, motor vehicles, PPE (including fall protection), electrical testing equipment, and hand tools.
Work Conditions :
This role primarily involves on-site project work, which can include exposure to varying conditions such as extreme temperatures, noise, and dust.
Hazardous conditions may occasionally occur, depending on the site type. Administrative tasks require limited off-site work.
Physical Demands :
This position requires regular travel between the office and job sites, involving driving, standing, and walking. It may involve climbing ladders or stairs and lifting materials up to 70 pounds.
Effective communication with clients and co-workers is essential for success in this role.
Travel Requirements :
