Reed College seeks a dynamic and service-oriented librarian to provide expertise in research methods, resources, and instruction for the Humanities disciplines.

In this position, you will support and collaborate with students and faculty engaged in research, inquiry, and coursework throughout the curriculum.

The Humanities librarian coordinates information literacy sessions for Humanities disciplines, including the college’s foundational first-year Humanities 110 course.

This position is one of 6 liaison librarians in the Research Services department, a team of highly collaborative colleagues focused on outreach and instruction.

Starting salary range for this position is $68,000 - $72,000 per year. Offers are based on experience and are determined through an internal pay assessment.

This is an exempt position on grade 7.

What You’ll Do

Serve as primary liaison to assigned humanities subject areas and actively develop relationships with faculty, students, and staff in those departments.

Develop and deliver instruction to assigned departments; teach research tools and skills relevant to humanities disciplines.

Coordinate and delegate information literacy sessions for the foundational first-year course, Humanities 110 and promote sessions to faculty.

Consult with students, providing in-depth research support from introductory humanities courses to the required senior thesis.

Collaboratively develop and participate in library outreach that increases student engagement with the library and coordinate outreach efforts to first year students.

Measure instructional outcomes, promote integration of library instruction into the curriculum, and assess programming in support of student success.

Develop and manage electronic and print collections to support the research and teaching needs of the community.

Develop and maintain subject-based online research guides and support citation management best practices.

Engage with a dynamic community using both traditional research methods and emerging modes of scholarship and pedagogies.

Qualifications

ALA-accredited MLS / MLIS or relevant advanced degree and minimum of 2 years of directly related library experience.

Experience teaching information literacy principles and practices.
