THE COMPANY

Our client is the industry-led skills body for the UK’s screen industries film, television (high-end, children’s, unscripted), VFX, animation and games.

THE ROLE

As Head of Policy & Public Affairs, you will be responsible for representing Policy and Public Affairs externally, participating in the senior management team, and supporting the board and industry.

Key responsibilities :

• To lead the development of the company’s overall policy positions on a range of relevant topics, working closely with the Chief Executive and the senior management team.
• To identify and review relevant research and data from a mix of credible sources related to policy areas including apprenticeships, future skills pipeline, production hubs, access and inclusion, levelling up, etc.
• To articulate company policy positions in a concise, compelling way to a range of audiences.
• To develop and achieve industry alignment on policy proposals, particularly with a view to representing cohesive positions on skills policy issues on behalf of the screen sector.

This could include establishing dedicated forums / committees with industry policy leads.)

• To provide strategic counsel and support to the Chief Executive where needed.
• Support the development of proactive public affairs strategies and plans that are integrated with the broader organisational strategy, driving improvement in the company’s reputation, and helping embed effective stakeholder engagement across the business.
• Lead on the strategy to influence policymakers and political stakeholders, including identifying appropriate messaging, stakeholders, and channels.
• To identify, develop, and maintain relationships with key officials in Whitehall, Westminster, devolved assemblies, and relevant bodies.
• Identify opportunities to work in partnership with others to deliver policy objectives.
• To participate in meetings, conferences, and seminars, promoting corporation policies to a range of critical stakeholders including regulators, Government opinion-formers, and think tanks, etc.

THE PERSON

You’ll have experience advocating for specific needs / programmes to Government departments and relevant bodies / funders.

You should have experience utilising and commissioning research to inform policy work in the areas of learning, skills, and / or education.

With a strong understanding of the industry’s skills agenda and ideally a background in the creative industries, you should be able to present complex arguments effectively, advising senior managers, board members, and stakeholders, and engaging with government and regulatory authorities on a range of policy issues.

Our client is looking for someone with experience preparing clear and high-quality briefing documents for different stakeholders & the ability to contribute to the identification of priority skills needs across the creative industries.

You should have experience of programme design and delivery, developing and maintaining a network of advisory contacts & experience of delivering project outcomes on time, to budget, and in line with senior stakeholders’ expectations.

You’ll also have experience representing an organisation with key external stakeholders at public events and meetings & strategic income generation / bid writing.
