Job Summary / Basic Function
Reporting to the Director of Network Services, the Network Engineer provides technical and operational support for all wired and wireless networks across the Middle Tennessee State University campus.
This includes assisting Senior Network Engineers with the design, configuration, and troubleshooting of enterprise wired and wireless networks, participation in new building construction and renovation project management, responding to service requests and tickets on a daily basis, maintaining software and firmware updates for various network infrastructure systems and equipment, maintaining the campus fiber plant, maintaining the campus data closet UPS infrastructure, and coordinating with various internal teams and external vendors and contractors for network fiber, copper, and data line requests.
Perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned. Note an on-call rotation is required.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferred in Computer Information Systems or a related field
- Note : An associate’s degree with 5 years of experience or no degree with 7 years of experience as described below may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
Required Related Experience
3 years of full time, progressively responsible experience in enterprise network support
Desirable Related Experience
- 3 years of experience as described in "Required Related Experience" in a medium to large organization
- 2 years of experience working in higher education IT preferred
- Experience supporting Cisco switching and Cisco IOS XE in a large organization preferred
Desirable License / Registration / Certification
- CCNA
