Job Title : Airfield Electrical Inspector (W2 only, no C2C)
Location : Onsite at JFK International Airport property (Queens, NY)
Duration : 24 months contract, with possible 12-24 month extension.
Job Summary :
A Government customer located in the NYC area is seeking a dedicated and experienced Airfield Electrical Inspector to join their team for the current JFK International Airport construction project.
The ideal candidate needs at least 5 years of engineering experience and a minimum of 3 years of field construction inspection experience.
This role is responsible for inspecting and ensuring the proper installation and maintenance of airfield electrical systems, including runway lighting, signage, and power distribution systems, while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities :
- Field Inspection : Perform on-site inspections of airfield electrical systems, including lighting, signage, navigational aids, and power distribution to ensure they are installed according to design specifications, regulatory standards, and project requirements.
- Compliance Verification : Ensure all construction and electrical systems comply with FAA, ICAO, NFPA, NEC, and other relevant safety and electrical codes.
- Construction Oversight : Monitor electrical contractors’ work on airfield projects, ensuring that construction schedules are adhered to and identifying any deviations from the approved plans or specifications.
- System Testing & Commissioning : Oversee testing and commissioning of airfield lighting, power, and communication systems to confirm proper operation, including runway lighting, taxiway lights, approach lights, and other related systems.
- Technical Documentation : Prepare detailed inspection reports, documenting any deficiencies, recommendations for corrective actions, and final approvals once issues are resolved.
- Quality Assurance : Conduct regular site visits to review the quality of materials used and ensure that installations meet the highest quality standards.
This includes verifying cable connections, grounding, control systems, and safety features.
- Issue Resolution : Work closely with contractors and engineers to resolve any issues related to installation, design, or electrical system performance.
- Record Keeping : Maintain comprehensive records of inspection activities, test results, and any corrective actions taken.
Ensure that all documentation is properly filed and accessible for future audits or regulatory reviews.
- Safety Monitoring : Ensure all electrical installations meet safety regulations and that contractors adhere to proper safety procedures on-site.
- Coordination : Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other inspectors to ensure seamless project execution and timely completion.
Required Qualifications :
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- At least 3 years of field construction inspection experience, preferably within an airport or airfield environment.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with design and field engineers / architects, project managers, contract engineers, schedulers, and financial analysts
- Demonstrated experience performing inspection services in highly congested urban areas
- Valid Driver’s license
- SIDA Badge (or credentials to secure such)
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and / or Secure Worker Access Consortium (SWAC) certification (or ability to secure such)
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience working on FAA-funded projects or familiarity with FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) regulations.
- Knowledge of airfield electrical systems such as runway / taxiway lighting, signage, and control systems.
- Familiarity with medium voltage electrical systems and grounding techniques for airfield installations.
