Overview
POSITION SUMMARY :
- Under general guidance of the Benefits and Workers’ Compensation Administrator, the Workers' Compensation Coordinator ensures timely processing of workers’ compensation claims;
- evaluates the completed first report of injury to determine accuracy and completeness and to ensure adequate investigations;
ensures that each employee’s claim is handled with excellent customer service and accuracy for effective loss management.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Evaluates first report of incident, ensuring the timely processing of reports and temporary total disability benefits;
reviews medical reports, witness statements, department investigation results and other documentation. Compiles facts and data regarding accident reports and filed cases.
- Manages the end-to-end process for all workers’ compensation claims; provides resolution to HR and Risk / Safety Team.
- Advises and / or assists departments in conducting investigation of accident reports, including interviewing of witnesses and procurement of relevant documentation.
- Maintains records and files for those incidents involving employees.
- Reviews documentation to determine whether medical bills are appropriately reporting diagnoses and medical plan.
- Reviews first reports of injury to identify patterns of injury and to determine whether unsafe conditions contributed to the accident;
- works closely with Risk, Compliance, and Safety to determine trends in injuries and proper safety procedures that may result in reduction of injuries;
provides department with information that will aid in reducing accidents and improve safety.
Documents telephone conversations, witness statements, medical reports, accident investigation results and payment of medical bills;
prepares summaries of medical reports.
- Prepare necessary state fillings within statutory limits.
- Assists with audits of the TPA to ensure claims are processed timely for the enterprise and employees.
- Works closely with HR leadership and field leadership for return-to-work opportunities; assists in development of return-to-work program.
- Refers cases as appropriate to supervisor and management.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILL REQUIREMENTS :
- Associate degree and 1-3 years of claims management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Bachelor's preferred.
- 1-3 years of Workers' Compensation claims management experience
- Working knowledge of the Workers' Compensation and other applicable state / federal statutes and regulations.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and impairments and their disabling effects.
- Working knowledge of office procedures and technologies.
- Ability to obtain facts that ensure that claims information is complete and accurate.
- Ability to balance casework loads and efficiently process claims.
- Good judgment in interpreting medical facts presented by a physician and applying these facts in determining an individual's capacity to return to work.
- Ability to read, assimilate and recall with marked proficiency facts, figures and descriptions, and to search for and obtain information.
- Effective communication skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment :
This is a full-time position. Work hours will vary depending on client schedules, project deadlines, and the needs of the company.
Workweeks may exceed hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. The environment may be fast paced and stressful.
