Job Summary Examines and evaluates permit applications, plans and specifications relating to installation of fuel burning equipment, process equipment, and pollution control devices at commercial and industrial facilities;

asbestos abatement and demolition projects; and solid waste-related activities.

Responsible for the maintenance of reports and records related to enforcement of the permit system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and
  • Two (2) years in implementing environmental programs or directly related experience is required or
  • An equivalent combination of education and / or experience is required Candidates who are contacted will be required to produce original required documents (e.

g., current driver's license, diploma, school transcript, certifications, etc.) listed on the Notice of Job Opportunity within five (5) days of being extended an offer, in writing, by the Bureau Chief of BHR (or designee).

Candidates will be notified of how to submit required documents. *Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and County environmental regulations, including the Clean Air Act (CAA) and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
  • Knowledge of moderately complex principles and practices for a specialized area of focus.
  • Skill utilizing computer equipment and typical data management and analysis software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, with the general public respective to the mandates of Federal, State, and County environmental protection laws.
  • Ability to read and interpret applicable technical diagrams, drawings, and sketches.
  • Ability to conduct electronic intake, review, and approval of permit applications in database.
  • Ability to provide moderate-level insight, advice and expertise to other professionals, management, and external contacts in an assigned functional area.
  • Ability to operate as a team player and communicate specialized knowledge to team members, managers, and external stakeholders.

Physical Requirements : Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. The duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work.
