Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is seeking a talented professional to join the Frontotemporal Disorders (FTD) Unit in a dynamic role as the Manager of Caregiver Support Services and Community Engagement.

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Caregiver Operations and Community Impact, the Manager of Caregiver Support Services and Community Engagement is responsible for providing comprehensive support and resources to caregivers of individuals living with dementia, specifically frontotemporal disorders and young-onset dementias.

This role involves close collaboration with caregivers, community partners, key stakeholders, and internal departments to enhance caregiver support services and promote community engagement for clinical care, research participation, and philanthropy.

The Manager of Caregiver Support Services and Community Engagement will be involved in planning community education events for the MGH FTD Unit, supporting the execution of a comprehensive development campaign, writing patient-facing communication materials, and engaging in direct resource and referral for family caregivers.

This role will support the interdisciplinary team of the MGH FTD Unit towards our mission of providing the highest quality of care while working tirelessly towards a cure for the devastating conditions that our patients and families face.

The ideal incumbent will be a highly professional and collegial team player with a proven ability to engage and work collaboratively with patients, caregivers, volunteers, members of the medical staff, internal partners, and external stakeholders.

This role seeks a candidate with strong time management and organizational skills to promote the highest level of professionalism in event planning, communications, and development activities.

The ability to incorporate unique perspectives, cultural sensitivity, and neurodiversity will be critical to ensure that event planning, educational materials, and caregiver support will promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all initiatives.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Caregiver Support

  • Conduct regular meetings and calls with caregivers to provide support, resources, and guidance.
  • Develop and maintain a support network for caregivers, including facilitating support groups and educational sessions.
  • Address the specific needs and challenges faced by caregivers of loved ones with frontotemporal disorders through MGH FTD Unit communications including community-wide emails, the MGH FTD Unit newsletter, and event announcements.

Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with community experts and key stakeholders to develop and enhance programs and services for caregivers.
  • Represent the MGH Frontotemporal Disorders Unit in community meetings and events.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners and organizations, including national patient advocacy organizations.
  • Travel may be required on the local and national level to attend conferences or educational events sponsored by patient advocacy organizations.

Data Gathering and Writing

  • Participate in survey development and distribution to support the development of patient-facing communications, including newsletters, event announcements, and educational materials.
  • Write and edit content for various communication channels to keep caregivers informed and engaged.
  • Ensure that all communications are accurate, informative, and supportive.

Event Planning

  • Gather background information and facts to support the planning and execution of events for the MGH FTD Unit, including identifying communities with the greatest need for education, optimal venues and platforms to conduct meetings and events, and unique needs of target audience.
  • Coordinate logistics for events, including scheduling, venue selection, volunteer organization, and participant communication.
  • Work with internal and external partners to ensure successful event outcomes.

Fundraising and Philanthropy

  • Develop and implement strategies to secure funding and resources for caregiver support services and community engagement initiatives that support the clinical research goals of the MGH FTD Unit.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors and philanthropic organizations.
  • Track and report on fundraising activities and outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education and Training Requirements :

  • Minimum of Master's Degree
  • Direct experience working with adults with cognitive and behavioral impairments, and their families
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising and philanthropy

Knowledge :

  • Familiarity with various departmental programs within and outside of MGH community in which collaboration or referral could be beneficial to patients and caregivers.
  • Familiarity with anatomy and physiology of cognition and behavior, and ability to communicate that knowledge to patient and family and others as necessary.
  • Knowledge of normal language, speech, cognition functions.
  • Knowledge of neurologic disorders leading to dementia.
  • Knowledge of referral sources.
  • Familiarity of basic standardized testing and informal procedures to assess neuropsychologic deficits and symptoms in adult populations with cognitive-behavioral disorders.
  • Knowledge of computer applications within the Partners HealthCare System.
  • Knowledge of Safety and Universal Precautions.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.

Age-Specific Criteria-Based :

Demonstrates competency in knowledge of caring for patients in all of the following categories : adult and elders including individuals with cognitive and behavioral impairment including impaired decision-making capacity.

  • Communication skills, including listening, speaking, nonverbal communication, and writing, taking into consideration the communication needs as well as the cultural value of the patient, the family, caregivers, significant others, health professionals, and colleagues.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Clinical research outpatient hospital environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY :

Directly supervises day-to-day activities performed by Clinical Research Coordinators, and other Center and Unit staff during the course of all unit events.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY :

The incumbent will be responsible for developing and monitoring, with input from the MGH FTD Unit Director and the Senior Director of Caregiver Operations and Community Impact, budgets for all community events and community educational initiatives.

The incumbent will manage expenditures for all print materials, social media and marketing products and will manage expenditures and track gains related to all aspects of development campaigns.
