and Teacher Education and Learning Sciences, with approximately 130 tenure-track and professional-track faculty, 110 support and professional staff, and about 160 graduate and teaching assistants.

The College of Education is also home to the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research and the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation.

Administratively housed in the College of Education, Elevate is a university-wide initiative designed for North Carolina residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and will offer educational credentials, such as certificates.

The program focuses on five pillars of success : academics, employment, personal development, independent living and social engagement.

Essential Job Duties The Campus and Community Engagement Coordinator is a key role within the Elevate program at the university, responsible for fostering social and active participation of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in campus and community life.

This position ensures that students are involved in social events, clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities, while also working closely with residential life staff to provide the necessary support for students living on campus.

The coordinator will troubleshoot residential life issues with students, ensuring a positive living experience that aligns with the program’s person-centered approach.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field (Master’s preferred), plus two years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, particularly in promoting engagement.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of person-centered approachExcellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with university staff, students, and community partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field
  • Experience in residential life or student affairs, particularly in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with community engagement strategies and resources that support individuals with disabilities.
