Overview
The Legal Secretary provides essential administrative and secretarial support to attorneys, ensuring efficient management of litigation matters. The role requires strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and proficiency in legal software and office systems. Responsibilities include drafting, revising, and proofreading legal documents, preparing materials for court filings and hearings, maintaining calendars and client files, and supporting attorneys with scheduling and travel.
Responsibilities
- Draft, revise, and proofread legal documents, correspondence, memoranda, and emails
- Assemble documents and exhibits for court filings, hearings, depositions, arbitrations, and mediations
- Review, sort, and distribute incoming mail and emails appropriately
- Maintain client and chron files in compliance with firm standards
- Schedule and manage attorney appointments, meetings, and deadlines
- Ensure critical dates are properly recorded on the master calendar
- Utilize transcription equipment, word processing, and office software to produce documents
- Operate office equipment including photocopiers, fax machines, and postage meters
- Arrange attorney travel, including hotel, airfare, and ground transportation
- Assist in preparing marketing materials such as pitch folders, attorney bios, and presentations
- Provide additional administrative support and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
High School Diploma requiredPrior experience as a litigation legal secretaryStrong proofreading, typing (70 WPM), and document editing skillsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Experience with document management systems such as iManage preferredExcellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple attorneys' workloadsStrong verbal, written, and telephone communication skillsAbility to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentJ-18808-Ljbffr
