Assistant or Associate Communications Director may be hired based on experience, qualifications and candidate selected for the position.

Additional hours will be required to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Travel required. This job is not suitable for remote work and is expected to work regular on-site hours.

Purpose

To serve as a primary media relations / communications contact for Texas' highly visible, historically successful and nationally ranked baseball program, as well as the Longhorns' powerhouse men's and women's swimming and diving programs.

Also, will have the opportunity to work in a supporting role with the Texas football program.

Responsibilities

Serve as a critical primary media relations contact for baseball with roles ranging from arranging all media interviews, managing television / radio production meetings, press box operations, handle all press conference and media availabilities, media guide information, notes packages, records, record book, coaches, staff and student-athlete's biographical information, broadcast media prep packets, game program content, and website content and social media strategy and support.

Serve as the lead contact for all media relations efforts for the multi-time national champion and traditional power men's and women's swimming and diving programs (during the summer and fall seasons).

Serve as a key representative of the media relations / communications staff to coaches, student-athletes, and administrators, while maintaining daily contact with media.

Serve as a liaison for coaches and student-athletes with the media, along with conference, NCAA, and departmental contacts.

Lead campaigns for conference and national award nominations for student-athletes and coaches in assigned sports.

Primary duties will be developing, maintaining, and managing baseball and swimming and diving materials (weekly release, record book, media guide, statistics), heading up efforts in producing website content for baseball and swimming and diving and assisting in social media content production for those sports.

Also, manage all day-to-day communications duties for baseball and swimming and diving and assist in football, ranging from setting up interviews, arranging all press availabilities, collaborating with broadcast crews on game productions, coaches shows, feature stories and all-access shoots.

Work closely with local, regional, and national media, as well as all television broadcasts of baseball and swimming and diving season and championship events.

Play a vital role in the supervision and training of student assistants.

Collaborate regularly with the creative departments of both the overall athletics department and the football program, serving as the primary liaison between the communications office and football creative department.

Collaborate regularly with marketing, fundraising and ticket offices regarding ticket sales, promotions, event coordination, fundraising and special events.

Work and host conference and NCAA events as necessary. Attend outside functions and activities as a representative of the department.

Must always maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Actively participate in assigned education and training programs. Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws.

Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR.

Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and / or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree. Minimum of two years of full-time work experience in athletics communications - or one year of full-time experience combined with one year of full-time internship / graduate assistant experience.

Experience working with baseball statistical data entry for events as well as other sports. Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance issues as they pertain to publicity and promotional efforts.

Must have exceptional interpersonal communications skills to include excellent current writing experience and ability. Experience with Macintosh and PC computers using In-Design, Photoshop and Microsoft Word, and PC platform stat programs required.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, sports management, or related area. More than the required experience in athletic media relations, sports information, and / or sports public relations.

Having at least one year working with as a sports team communication contact. Previous work experience in professional or collegiate athletics sports programs.

Served as an editor on at least one publication. Athletic media relations employment at a Division I college or conference office.

Extensive organizational skills and work experience managing several projects simultaneously. Experience as a website content writer / editor.

Creative skills necessary to generate unique ideas for website coverage and social media platforms. Experience using Genius Sports statistical program for football.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence.

If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
