About the Role :

Our client is a fast-growing, dynamic insurance national brokerage and risk management firm. They are seeking a highly experienced National Director of Underwriting and Stop Loss Services to join their Employee Benefits team.

This is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the underwriting process for employee benefits programs, with a particular focus on stop loss insurance.

This person will lead a team that assesses and manages risks associated with clients' health insurance plans, ensuring that the company offers accurate and competitive insurance solutions.

Key aspects of the role include :

Team Leadership : Managing and mentoring an underwriting team, guiding their strategies and processes.

Risk Assessment : Analyzing financial data, claims, and market trends to determine appropriate coverage levels and

Stop Loss Expertise : Overseeing the Stop Loss Centers of Excellence, requiring specialized knowledge in stop loss insurance for self-funded health plans.

Collaboration : Working closely with actuarial, claims, and finance departments to ensure comprehensive risk assessment.

Client Interaction : While not directly managing clients, they will be involved in presenting complex financial data and solutions to clients.

Other Supervisory Responsibilities

Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.

Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Ideal Candidate Profile :

Education and Experience :

Four-year degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics (majoring in these fields are not a prerequisite)

Professional certification in risk management or related field is a plus

12+ years of experience in financial risk assessment, with 6+ years in a senior role

Familiarity with various funding mechanisms for large-scale financial protection programs

Key Skills and Knowledge :

Expert-level ability to analyze and interpret complex numerical data

Proficiency in creating and utilizing predictive models and forecasting tools

In-depth understanding of regulatory landscapes affecting financial risk management

Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing teams

Comprehensive grasp of risk evaluation methodologies and best practices

Exceptional project management skills with ability to handle multiple priorities

Advanced proficiency in data analysis software and Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel

Experience in translating technical information into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences
