Underwriter - Auto Insurance

An Underwriter is responsible for analyzing new business and renewal applications to verify the risk is acceptable and properly rate the policy while working within the department’s established guidelines.

Essential Job Functions :

Analyze all information gathered on new business and / or renewal applications to determine eligibility.

Perform database searches to review driving records, accidents and violations.

Identify any policy items that may need to be addressed or escalated.

Ensure accuracy and completeness of information.

Communicate with applicants / subscribers to obtain correct documentation or missing information.

Review requested documents and additional information for acceptability.

Enter data into company systems and process according to company and state guidelines.

Process changes and issue new and renewal policies.

Assist with Member Services subscriber phone calls.

Manage all work assignments in a timely and efficient manner.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

At least 1 year of directly related experience required or equivalent combination of education and / or experience.

Property & Casualty Insurance License is required for this position but not necessary to apply.

Strong analytical skills.

Detail oriented; ability to produce work with a high level of accuracy.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Excellent listening skills.

Ability to multi-task.

Organized.

Computer skills including knowledge of navigating a computer, data entry, Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Willingness to collaborate with other departments.

Physical Actions / Environment : Working conditions are typical of an office environment. Required job duties consist of prompt and regular attendance, ability to frequently move about the office to coordinate work with others;

standing, sitting and typing for extended periods; and lifting and / or carrying up to 5 lbs. Ability to frequently communicate with others in-person, on the phone / virtually, and in writing.

Ability to read, understand, process and evaluate large amounts of technical information and make related, informed decisions.

Candidates must be willing to work onsite in either our Princeton, NJ office or Detroit, MI office.

Compensation : $54,080 - $70,720 annually based on experience

Schedule : Full-Time; 8 : 30am to 5 : 00pm. Typically performs a daytime schedule, some evening or weekend work may be required on occasion.
