- Oversee the management of health information contained in the medical electronic health record and medical record charts for UNCG Student Health Services.
- Provide and oversee excellent customer service for all patrons / customers of Student Health Services.
- Supervise administrative support staff in health information and referral management.
- Implement, enforce, and monitor policies and procedures, assuring health information management and security of protected health information.
- Collaborate closely with Insurance / Billing (accounts receivable).
- Information / Record Administration : Ability to consult with clinical / professional staff regarding medical record questions and / or problems;
ability to assess and assist in process improvements for health information systems. Ability to assist in development and implementation of HIM audit procedures.
- Ability to prepare and analyze a variety of data; ability to assist clinical / professional staff in design of performance improvement studies and necessary data collection methods;
- ability to collect data as needed for surveys and various licensing and accrediting agencies. Ability to process special requests for information;
ability to analyze policies and procedures for efficiencies and effectiveness and make recommendations as appropriate; ability to attend court and / or depositions responding to requests for information.
Professional Knowledge : Full knowledge of principles and practices of medical record science. Full knowledge of medical terminology, and familiarity with basic medical coding standards.
Full knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing records and reports of medical care, vital statistics, and diseases, and of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Full knowledge of health information technology including electronic medical record systems and health information data management systems.
Performance and Management : Oversees the effectiveness and efficiency of clinic flow as it moves through the medical front desk (e.
g. check-in, check-out, patient wait times, scheduling, records and documentation requests) and suggests process improvements as indicated.
Oversees the effectiveness and efficiency of workflows for payment reconciliation and posting charges to university accounts and suggests process improvements as indicated.
Ability to establish new procedures and workflows; ability to coordinate work with other medical services. Ability to evaluate and modify quality control procedures;
ability to analyze, assess, and develop new techniques for quality record systems as necessary. Oversee 3 FTE Administrative Support Associates (training, work plans, performance management, leave, evaluations and timesheets).
Supervision : Ability to conduct performance reviews; ability to recommend resolution of disciplinary and grievance issues, as needed.
Ability to recruit and select employees. Ability to ensure direct reports have access to tools and information for career development opportunities.
Budgeting : Ability to monitor expenditures and identify potential budget issues within HIM; ability to recommend needed expenditures and revisions to the HIM budget;
ability to assess staffing needs of HIM and make recommendations to senior leadership. Minimum Qualifications
- BACHELOR’S DEGREE AND ONE YEAR OF EXPERIENCE RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE.
- ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related discipline; or completion of an accredited Medical Record Technician program and two years of experience in Medical Record work;
or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience in Health Information and electronic health records.
- Full knowledge regarding HIPAA.
- Experience in University / College Health.
