Staff Backend Developer, Core Banking

The role

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in our Bank systems architecture transformation, focusing on the evolution of our banking core to an account-engine model and the implementation of lean modular processes that interfaces with cloud native services.

This position involves making strategic incremental changes to the Profile banking core that propels SoFi towards a successful migration to the next gen.

You’ll be working within a highly collaborative environment where planning and executing through a unified lens is essential due to the complexity and interdependencies of multiple systems that interact with banking core.

As a SoFi staff software engineer, you’ll be in the middle of it all acting as a leader and force multiplier you’ll work with stakeholders to implement functionality, architect our systems, squash bugs, and continually grow as an engineer.

What you’ll do :

• Full development life-cycle design from project requirement to deployment of our banking core systems and services
• Work on technical architecture of the product and core banking migration
• Facilitate the definition of migration scope, deliverables, and goals.
• Lead cross-functional delivery teams to ensure deliverables are met.
• Track project performance against defined milestones / goals.
• Conduct process improvement projects to increase performance in vital program metrics.
• Communicate ongoing project health with key stakeholders and business leadership
• Maintain strict compliance with established project management policies and guidelines.
• Take initiative and produce timely results in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.
• Define best practices and uphold coding standards.
• Consistently demonstrate extremely high levels of technical knowledge, ingenuity, and creativity. Develops and applies advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories, and concepts.

Broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of specialty.

• Work within the Engineering team to develop features that specifically benefit our users.
• Must be able to deliver high-quality code on schedule, communicate with groups in and outside the development team.

What you’ll need :

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
• 10+ years programming experience in Profile / PSL
• Our banking core stack is Profile / PSL, GT.M / MUMPS, C, Python, Linux on AWS infrastructure and we run on Kubernetes in a service oriented architecture with over 100 services in production
• A proven understanding of hierarchical database and their structures (GT.M)
• Strong US banking domain expertise on areas such as product customizations, account relationships, ACH, debit card processing, regulations and compliance.
• Experience working on a SOA or integrating to a microservice-based application.
• Willingness to roll up your sleeves, collaborate with others and get stuff done
• Solid sense of responsibility; driving a project from inception to completion
• Affinity for solving problems and shipping impactful features, not polishing perfect code or architecture
• Experience working in a collaborative coding environment, refining designs together, working through code reviews and managing pull requests

Nice to have :

• Knowledge in analytics, metrics, and monitoring integrations
• Test-driven development along with unit and integration testing
• Experience with AWS infrastructure - EC2 / EBS / Route53 services
• Experience in systems (docker containers and kafka) and postgres database
• Experience scaling highly available, mission critical systems
• Knowledgeable in Python / Linux / Terraform scripting
• Experience with Snowflake data warehouse platform and solutions
• Interest in emerging cloud technologies

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.

Pay range : $153,600.00 - $264,000.00

Payment frequency : Annual
