The Business Enterprise Services (Accounting Services) Manager is the liaison between the Partner, the client and the professional staff and has the ability to work on and supervise complex accounting jobs.
Managers are responsible for managing multiple tax and accounting projects and client engagements simultaneously, and scheduling, staffing and coordinating engagement workflows.
Managers develop and train staff, as well as possess an in-depth knowledge of Marcum service offerings, develop long-term relationships, network both internally and externally in order to generate new business opportunities.
The Business Enterprise Services (Accounting Services) Manager will report to our St. Louis area office and has flexibility to occasionally work remotely, and this person will also need to be willing to visit client sites as needed.
Essential Functions
Develops a professional relationship with the client and serves as the main point-of-contact to ensure that the client is fully informed of engagement progress;
possesses a thorough knowledge of all facets of the client’s business.
- Plans, schedules and staffs engagements. Participates actively in client meetings and business and tax planning efforts.
- Prepares and reviews tax returns (1120S, 1065, and 1040) in addition to acting as a resource for tax preparers / specialists and accounting staff on specific tax issues and / or accounting questions.
- Identifies opportunities to expand the scope of current engagements through identification of client needs and requirements.
- Performs technical tax review and final approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations.
- Communicates important tax developments and the impacts it can have on the firm’s clients to the appropriate personnel.
- Possesses a complete knowledge of the Firm’s philosophy and its opinions on tax and accounting matters.
- Maintains knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate.
- Works with Partners, Principals and others to develop practical and effective tax strategies for clients.
- Makes effective use of Firm resources to complete a project and manage multiple client projects.
- Keeps Partner informed of all-important developments on engagement; analyzes problems and recommends solutions.
- Prepares engagement letters for approval by Partner.
- Understands the client's industry and recognizes key performance drivers, business trends, and emerging technical and industry developments.
Stays informed of general business / economic developments and their impact to the client.
- Maintains a familiarity with qualifications of all staff members.
- Supervises staff, reviews work papers, reports and provides on-the-job training and performance feedback.
- Uses technology to continually learn, shares knowledge with team members, and enhances service delivery.
- Maintains an educational program to continually develop skills.
- Maintains cooperative relationships with other engagement teams.
Education & Experience Required :
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting and / or other appropriate academic major required.
- Current and valid CPA license.
- Member in good standing with AICPA.
- Preparation and review of 1120S, 1065 and 1040 tax returns.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite of products, as well as accounting and tax software.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in complexity, scope and number of engagements managed.
- At least one year of experience supervising and directing the work of others
- Excellent project management skills.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
- Dedication to teamwork and leadership.
- Advanced technical skills in a variety of tax and accounting areas, along with well-developed and applied management and supervisory skills.
- Assists in recruiting, developing training aids and acting as an instructor in professional development programs.
- Prepares other reports and projects as requested.
- Participates in the firm’s practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community and industry activities.
- Occasional same day travel to client’s offices, meetings and seminars using a personal vehicle.
- Additional hours required from January to April 15; may be in excess of 55 hours per week.
