The Photovoltaic (PV) Engineer will be accountable for the PV design, all performance, and production estimates. Preconstruction design review, finalizing BOM with Estimators and capturing design improvement implemented throughout construction.
This is not a remote position and will be required to be in Goodhue, MN up to three days per week.
General Responsibilities :
- Lead design through pre-con and contract signing.
- Finalizing Bill of Materials with Estimating for proposals.
- Works with Purchasing / Preconstruction / Construction / Estimating to review and approve equipment and material specifications.
- Captures design improvements and ensures they are incorporated into future works.
- Seeks out opportunities for design improvement from vendors and new industry standards, including optimization or tracker rows, modules, Inverter sizing.
- Prepare conceptual designs for indicative pricing efforts.
- Works closely with the construction team to incorporate constructability feedback into future designs.
- Acts as a technical resource for construction and preconstruction teams.
- Leads PV array design and re-design based on client RFPs utilizing multiple Tracker and Inverter Suppliers' specifications, use of Trunklines, Wire management systems, and accounting for slope verifications.
- Design Solar PV Systems, including 1-line diagrams, array layouts, fence layouts, road layouts, and string sizing including MV quantities and cable sizing based on client documents and setbacks.
- Serve as a technical representative in client meetings.
- Assist in maintaining and updating Engineering standards.
- Work with third-party engineering firms for design reviews as needed.
- Typically, will support multiple projects simultaneously. Sizes range from 1.5MWdc to 500 MWdc.
- Coordinate with HV substation Design-build companies on MPT, Cap banks, and Gen-Tie needs and sizing as needed.
- Manage project files, drawings, documents & records in our project system.
Specific Responsibilities :
Support the CAD needs of the Preconstruction and Field construction teams, including but not limited to :
- Create proposal-level PV designs and BESS designs.
- Build up KE PV Design Criteria.
- Prepare Submittal Packages with Estimators.
- Perform energy modeling PVsyst.
- Perform takes-offs for proposals and material procurement.
- Maintain CAD file archives.
- Stay current with required training for the company's CAD requirements.
- Utilize and work within Procore for submittals and transmittals.
Qualifications :
- Proficiency with PVsyst production modeling, Helioscope, AutoCad, PV Case.
- Competency in CAD and pdf versions of array layouts.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in PV construction management or PV Solar Design in Utility Scale 1 to 50 MWdc.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other degree related to electrical utility design.
- Professional Engineering license preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge of National Electric Code.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and / or Revit experience is preferred.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that represents a history of safe & competent driving.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
Physical Requirements :
Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, walk, and sit for long periods of time.
